I like this book a lot as it calmed me down for the PT section of the CA Bar by showing me what to expect and how to answer the different tasks that would be given to me. It felt like I was taking a course b/c everything was done so step by step.

I self studied for the CA bar the 2nd time around (passed!), and this book was crucial to me doing well on the PT portion. The book is divided into 4-5 chapters, with each chapter representing the different types/categories of performance tests. For example, one chapter is on persuasive briefs, another on objective memos, etc. The book gives you tips on how to master the different categories of performance tests and what to look out for in each specific category. Following a brief introduction to that category, it then runs with you step by step an example of a performance test in that category with an analysis on the points you should hit. The analysis section is great as the book doesn't merely give you a sample perfect answer, but it is a brief summary in bullet points of all the major things you should have talked about in your answer. The book also give you a sample answer on top of that. There are two additional performance tests in each chapter as well, with sample answers.

After doing a couple of practice exams from each chapter, I began to recognize if the exam was asking me to write objectively or persuasively, and how to write the answers in a way they wanted. Highly recommended and for me this worked better than Barbri!
