For those who have never tied flies, or who just need a quick refresher course in how to get back in to the hobby, this book will definitely give you the building blocks you need to get started. While this book will not teach you how to tie the more complicated patterns like Royal Coachmen, or The Professor, it will get you started in tying basic flies that actually do catch fish. It begins with basic techniques, materials, and basic tools, and graduates up to a few more complicated tips and tricks. If you are a seasoned veteran of fly tying and are looking for a book on more advanced fly-tying patterns, then this is not the book for you. However, if you are new to the hobby and want a well illustrated, and very well written, informative book, then by all means give this book a shot.
Yes, here are the basics, which is what I wanted. However, without color plates in abundance it is less helpful. For fly tying you need to see the material colors and you need to see the finished product, especially the finished product.
Had the book myself and decided to give it as a gift. So glad to be able to find it.
Gave as a gift. It is a very good book with lots of great information.
Excellent and very clear writing and examples. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is more clearly written and easier to follow than any book that i have read.
It was in good condition and all that, no problems seller wise. Book is very vague and not really interesting to me anyway, just a personal opinion.
I have been tying flies for about 20 years. I learned using the first edition and the latest addition is just as good. I bought it for a fishing buddy who wants to learn to tie his own and this is perfect.
This Book is very easy to read and understand. The tips that they point out are time saving. it's great to see that you can sometimes substitute items that you may already have on hand. It would recommend this book to people just starting like I am.
