by Beverly Flanigan

A clearheaded study of what life can do to us and possible ways to begin again. --Carl A. Whitaker, M.D., author of Midnight Musings of a Family Therapist and coauthor of The Family Crucible Women and men who have been deeply hurt by someone they love often experience a pain that spirals out to undermine their work, relationships, self-esteem, and even their sense of reality. In Forgiving the Unforgivable, author Beverly Flanigan, a leading authority on forgiveness, defines such unforgivable injuries, explains their poisonous effects, and then guides readers out of the paralyzing anger and resentment. As a Fellow of the Kellogg Foundation, Flanigan conducted a pioneering study of forgiveness, and from that study, from her clinical practice, and from her many years of teaching, researching, and conducting professional workshops and seminars, she devised a unique six-stage program, presented here. Filled with inspiring real-life examples, Forgiving the Unforgivable is both a practical and a comforting guide to recovery and healing.

This is an insightful and must-read book for anyone looking to find the road toward forgiveness. She gets at the DNA nature of the subject and how to transform the wounds into being healed.

I haven't finished reading it yet, but i'm finding that it is not an easy book to read but just what I needed. When I say "not an easy book" I mean that it's work. Hard work. It's been churning up a lot of emotions that I had put aside. I was trying to skip over the anger stage and get right to the forgiving stage, but it doesn't work that way. This book made me realize I still had some soul searching to do. I purchased some "feel good" forgiving books too, and although they made me feel good (temporarily), this book made me think, and realize I still had work to do.
Definitely worth getting if you're up to it.

great information for the right people. Just has to be read and retained.
Thanx , I highly recommend the book . If your kids ever do you wrong and you have been split up for a long time,
its a great book to get forgiveness on the road and recovery.

Finally something that explains forgiveness. I have seen counselor after counselor and been told many different ways of viewing forgiveness (I was having a hard time understanding why I would forgive someone who physically and emotionally hurt me). But this book finally explained it in a way that made sense to me in all ways. I highly recommend this book if you are struggling with forgiveness.

I have read other books on forgiveness but felt this one really did a superior job explaining some of the internal processes that enable a person to reach forgiveness. I came away with a better understanding of the injury, unspoken moral agreements between people, the importance of assigning blame and the criteria for determining responsibility. I learned a lot about myself in the process. A friend had lent me a copy; after I read it, I decided this was a book I wanted to own, purchased my own copy, and got a second one for another friend. Thanks to Flanigan for the work she did.
This book is a study about forgiveness. Mostly looks like a textbook. Several stages are described in this book how to forgive, especially it helps when you work with clients who are very hard to give up their hurts and letting go out the wounds from those who hurt them.
The book also very useful for students who are studying case work, social work and clinical studies. Find out examples and types of different kind of people how to deal with them, read about different sort of theories and practices, before you will go to work within your patients of clients directly face to face. I recommend you this book.
