This is an outstanding book; although I am not married, it is valuable to me as a PERSON in relationships, and I have loaned it to several friends. Even my friends who are "just dating" have found it valuable. The personal examples help the reader realize that couples have problems - and there are workable solutions. One aspect I appreciate is the analysis of how easily we can believe we are "IN LOVE" and not consider that love is created, it is worked for, and that there are actually people with whom we have to little in common to try to enter into marriage.
As both a wife for nearly 50 years and a therapist who talks with both individuals and couples, I highly recommend this book to help people understand their spouse or significant other.
Some books on marriage make it seem impossible to pull off.
Brent and Janis have made it something we can all do and pull off.
We started using some of the practical steps immediately and it is
making a difference.
If you only had one book to get on the topic of marriage, this would be it. It presents a comprehensive outline of the major aspects of marriage, complete with relatable anecdotes. It is a well-written book that is very accessible and easy to understand. I would say, though it (nor any other book) cannot completely replace one-on-one personal pre-marital counseling, it's probably the next best thing. Very highly recommended...
Brent and Janis Sharpe's book is not only informative, but engages the reader through humorous stories and speaks from the heart of counselors and pastors who understand the potholes and struggles of today's married couples. You NEED to read this book!!!!
