by Franz Wisner

When it comes to love, some people need a world of help…

When you’ve been dumped at the altar and forced to share a series of honeymoon suites with your brother, it’s fair to say you could learn a thing or two about love.

That’s what Franz Wisner sets out to do in How the World Makes Love —traveling to far flung locales with a mission: to glean the planet’s most important love lessons and see if they can rescue him from the ruins of his own love life. Uproarious stays on four continents bring Wisner new wisdom but he still searches for the secret to his own romantic happiness.

But after months on the road, one disastrous date with a Los Angeles actress and single mom keeps popping into his head. Could it be that while researching what the world knows about love, Wisner missed a bigger truth: that something unplanned and implausible could actually make him happy?

Funny, tender, and studded with observations about love from around the planet, How the World Makes Love is witty and wise escape reading.

I loved "Honeymoon With My Brother", so was eager to read Franz's sequel, "How the World Makes Love". I really enjoyed traveling the world with him as he explored how one's culture influences love, lives and relationship around the world. He offers unique, inspiring insight to how our own individual environment really does shape one's views on life. I particularly enjoy how he intertwines his own life experiences and openly discusses his own love life in a witty and endearing way.

This book was a perfect compliment to the next book on my book shelf... I just finished reading How to Have A Match Made in Heaven: A Transformational Approach to Dating, Relating, and Marriage by Ariel & Shya Kane. In a very different way than Franz, they too explore how the culture that you've grown up in influences your life and your well-being. They use real life stories (including video links) to give you the tools to have a magical life. I highly recommend that you go out and read both of these books - they're light, fun and great!

I loved that it is a true story and Franz had the guts to walk away from everything, and discover many things about himself, his brother, and had the patience to let life lead him to the place he was destined to be-beside Tracy. My story was similar in that I still had my bachelorette party, and a party on the night I was to be married. The coward begged me to meet him at the church at the time of our wedding. A close friend went in my place, and I swear God intervened by not allowing her to find him there, even though his car was outside. I realize now (17 years later, and never married) that there are scars that could have been removed, had I dealt with the internal pain instead of trying to sweep it under the rug.
Both books will be recommended to my book club, but I will likely be the one most impacted by them.

I am sorry to say that I was very disappointed in this book. I loved Wisner's first book, Honeymoon with my brother, but this was really just a recap of his relationship and marriage to his current wife. There was very little about his travels described. I would pass on this book and read the first book if you have not already done so.

I start to read quite a few books, often don't finish them if they aren't compelling enough. This one though decent in the beginning almost fell into the not going to finish pile. It seemed too light, and humorous in just a pleasant, cliched way. But then it picked up considerably, showed lots more depth, the humor a bit more knowing, intelligent and insightful, and then became quite touching honest and heartfelt. I like to travel a lot myself and became envious of Franz' and his brothers adventure. I'm glad he shared what he learned along with way. It was worthwhile finishing the book.

I'm between a four and five star rating here.

This book opens the eyes ( if you haven't traveled outside of the USA) to different styles of love, courting, marriage and family values. All true and good but different.
From whether men like their women with leg hair, tummies, and what makes their marriage and relationship really work. From India to Madagascar a wonderful read filled with humor and of course, love.

If you liked Honeymoon with my Brother this is another great read from Franz Wisner. I thought it was a little slow going but once I got into it I really enjoyed it. A nice easy read.
