If only the answer to every marital question were as easy as “I do!”For many couples the challenges of planning their nuptials are a piece of (wedding) cake compared to what comes after: How do we merge our finances—or do we? Do we need to spend every free minute together? And how do we decide where to spend our first Thanksgiving?Online wedding community TheKnot.com was fielding so many questions like these from their newly married members that they were inspired to create an entirely new site—TheNest.com—dedicated to the unique issues that face people in the first few years of marriage. A 24/7 virtual married-best-friend-who’s-been-there-before, the site and its thousands of just-married members dish out advice on everything from how to get your permanent roommate to pick up his or her dirty socks, to how to inspect a property when you’re buying your first home, to foolproof guidelines for entertaining the in-laws. Unlike single friends (who don’t have the experience to give tried and true advice) or Mom (who has lots of experience but tends to give too much advice), Nesties share their experiences with no strings attached—and free of the worries that come with real-world friendship. Now the editors of The Nest have brought together the very best of this hard-won knowledge, plus their own astute insights into the early years of marriage, to create a unique resource for navigating the sometimes bumpy road of marriage. Touching on everything from money to sex and starting a family, they go where no etiquette book or self-help manual has gone before, providing real-life solutions for the myriad problems even the happiest couple can encounter when two become one. The first in a series of books for any couple who wants every day of their new lives together to be as fulfilling and meaningful as the day they walked down the aisle, The Nest Newlywed Handbook goes beyond platitudes and pep talks to explore the many rich rewards of married life. An offshoot of the hugely popular wedding website The Knot, The Nest started out as an online community of girls grappling with the emotional issues—and enormous to-do lists—that come with the first years of marriage. The Nest has grown into a weekly webzine, a print magazine, and now a book series—all 100% committed to the phrase “happily ever after.” Visit us at thenest.com.Secrets every couple needs to know, from the website that put marriage on the mapWhether you’re about to tie the knot or are already well into your first years together, you are sure to have realized that this is not your parents’ marriage. Oh, how the rules—and roles—have changed. Who does the housework now that everyone works? If you want to keep your money separate—does it mean you’re not committed? Is it OK to order takeout when the in-laws come for dinner? The Nest Newlywed Handbook is your road map to modern married life, guiding you through the ins and outs of tackling life as a twosome.Get tips and tricks on:•Merging your money (or not)•Building the family fortune •Loving your in-laws•Buying your first home •Decorating as a duo•Divvying up the chores•Keeping the flame alive•Fighting nicely•Talking about kids•Maintaining your single friends •Hosting during the holidays•Figuring out the futureThis book is filled with advice, detailed to-dos, checklists, quizzes, and worksheets that are sure to spark conversations, fix problems, and get your new life together on track and off to a good start.

I bought this after I got married thinking I was missing out on something being a newlywed and adapting so well. Well, I wasn't I just learned to do everything from the get go! (ie: Living with a significant other, shared bank accounts, shared insurance, sharing money, etc) We were engaged 3 years before we got married and living together after 3 months. We learned everything by just living. BUT if you're a new couple and are in a serious relationship... this would still be PERFECT to get. It's not really 'newlywed' it's really just about joining your lives together, which you can do married or unmarried.

I recently gave mine to my brother-in-law's girlfriend (now fiance)... but really had nothing to do with them being engaged. She and him are having a baby and need to know how to mesh their lives together in a serious manner! So this is awesome. It covers the basics of anything and everything regarding making your lives eachothers OR keeping them separate in some areas. It's really just showing you options and what you can do for this or that.

Also goes over marital problems and working through them. Also in law issues. It's a really great guide.

If you're one of those people who kinda just have relationships that 'work' and you don't have to try at like anything... then this book is just knowledge you already know. But if you are also the person who tries to explain your easy meshing of life to your friends and they seem so overwhelmed by what you're saying... buy this book for them. It'll save you time and frustration trying to explain the pros and cons of adult life meshing. Lol.

Really useful book... if you need it!

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. It covered pretty much everything. I guess if I had to say something it would be to allow more room in certain areas to give information. Other than that I recommend this book to all newlyweds or engaged couples living together. It’s so important that you both have access to all that information and that you have the personal information on each other. Emergencies happen and with this book you’ll have everything you need to fill out forms and such. Also, if worse comes to worse and the marriage doesn’t work out there’s record of who gets what. The book covers everything. Great great book!

This book was such a huge help when my husband and I got married(February 28th 2015). We are newlyweds and there are so many things in this book that my family never taught me. All of the questions that I had were answered, and the way things were explained was very step by step. The colors are amazing and really helped me to pay attention to what I was reading!
I would recommend this to any young person, or anyone who has plans of living on their own/getting married.

So there are TONS of books about how to get married, but not so many about how to survive your first year of marriage (which is really the more important part, right?). This book is great for understanding all the different aspects of being married - from inlaws to chores to sex, this book covers it all and gives you great advice. I like that the chapters are really stand alone too so you can read them when it comes up. There are also worksheets at the end to help you and your spouse figure things out together. I would recommend this book for newlyweds! It isn't super deep, but it covers a lot of surface area.

this book covers so many areas & topics, & i wish i had run into it before we got married!
as it is, this book has saved us probably years of thinking, bumbling, bungling & trial-&-error.
There are suggestions we never would have thought of that make living together just so much easier.
the money, the housekeeping, etc etc etc.
There are plenty of books on marriage available, & plenty of books written for new marriage available as well.
This is an incredibly useful book, & it is actually the best book of its kind i have run across.
if you are married or going to be & have not read this, definitely read it.

I bought this for a friend's daughter who recently got married. She actually sent me a picture of her reading this while laying on the beach on their honeymoon! There are so many things that newlyweds just don't know, and don't know who to ask, this book gives them things to discuss and maybe even brings up topics they haven't even thought of yet. Knowledge is always a good thing.

This is a very useful book for newlyweds. I bought it for my husband and I not long after our wedding. We have read several parts of the book and appreciated the insight. I like it so much I bought a bunch more to give to friends as part of a wedding gift! :) There is good, solid advice/information/tips/examples that make this book worth it. The books covers all major topics that newlywed couples face (merging finances, doing household chores, sex, in-laws, entertainment/date-night plans, meal preparation, furnicure, loans, rent and house shopping, ETC!) Great resource to have handy!
I don't think that I am considered a "newlywed" any longer. That being said, I love "The Nest" magazine and thought this would be a great addition to my extensive book collection. There are so many wonderful strategies for all kinds of personalities to help with everything from the not so big of decorating, frustrating family situations to the BIG, BIG challenges of life of finances. With tips, thoughts, and how it worked for me exerpts. This is now the "card" that will be attached to EVERY wedding gift I give from here on out!!!
