This is my 2nd Peter Michaelson book I've read (Freedom From Self-Sabotage was the 1st) and I have experienced some very profound changes from dreading the book and doing the written exercises. The written exercise on grudges on page 137 on grudges produced a major shift in me. After completing that exercise, people from my past that I previously fantasized seeing being brutally beaten shifted to looking at them with compassion and an understanding how I created those situations. And it feels GREAT because I feel peace, contentment, and my inner critic is silent on those matters...

I think I was able to connect with this book because of my training as a certified Advanced NLP Practitioner and other learnings. Specifically the following was very useful for me to prepare me:
(1)I had learned there is an unconscious mind in all people.
(2)I had learned that in a battle between the conscious mind and unconscious mind the UNCONSCIOUS MIND ALWAYS will eventually prevail so deal with the unconscious mind FIRST.
(3)I had learned the unconscious mind will have us behave in irrational ways and it will sabotage what we consciously want.
(4)I had absorbed Eckhart Tolle's teachings about getting your mind in the now and realizing excessive mind chatter is harmful to our emotional well being.

Peter's books are filling a significant emotional need in me that NLP was not yet able to fill. I have three more of Peter's books to read and I look forward to making more self discoveries. Since I started digesting the material in this book and doing the written exercises, I feel so hopeful about my future. It is now easy to manage my food intake where I use to splurge to "reward" myself. I still sometimes catch myself running non-useful patterns such as blaming others however I seem to be a lot more conscious in catching myself. This book is about doing deep emotional surgery on yourself to heal your emotional hurts and become your "authentic self". This book isn't for everyone. The average person when seeing them selves as others see them may run screaming in embarrassment. And that is unfortunate because getting to the other side feels REALLY GOOD. Time will tell whether the emotional shifts I experienced are permanent though I can say right now I feel VERY confident they are permanent. This book is my missing emotional Rosetta Stone that I've been looking.

This is one of the best books I have ever read and I have read about 10 000. If you are suffering or are in pain around particular issues in your life or are struggling to change something - I highly recommend you buy this book. You have secret attachments whether you believe it or not. It is full of powerful and practical insight around how our subconscious attachments to the negative show up in our lives and relationships and how and why they cause us pain and suffering. I generally do not write reviews, but when I saw that no one else had, I felt obligated to do so. I wish I had read this book 10 years ago. If you value your inner freedom, power, growth, conscious awareness and sustainable joy read it now - you will never regret it.
