by M. R. Wehr,J. A. Richards,III Thomas W. Adair

The fourth edition of Physics of the Atom is designed to meet the modern need for a better understanding of the atomic age. It is an introduction suitable for students with a background in university physics and mathematical competence at the level of calculus. This book is designed to be an extension of the introductory university physics course into the realm of atomic physics. It should give students a proficiency in this field comparable to their proficiency in mechanics, heat, sound, light, and electricity.

Advertised as a new textbook. Pages were well faded and there was two different sets of handwriting found within. (one in pencil and one in pen). Still a clean book with no pages bent or missing but when I pay for a "new" text, I expect to be the one to write in it.
I never thought I would be writing a review like this, and I never hoped to, either. But after being assigned this book for my third semester calculus-based physics course, and being a physics /mathematics major, I believe it is my duty to warn people of this dangerous, worthless book. However, if you fit the description of any one of the following people, you may like this book: if you enjoy reading the phrase "beyond the scope of this text" for many simple derivations; if you enjoy working problems and checking the answer in the back of the book only to find that you are WAY off--and it is because the book has made GROSS round-off errors, or they have worked the problem COMPLETELY wrong; if you like being utterly confused because you cannot tell what the 'primed' reference frame means in relativity, because many different definitions are given; and, finally, if you believe that math is trivial, since gosh!, every lame-brained physicist is an expert at math! ; they just won't stoop to that level. I am not any one of the above people, but if you are, I wish you much luck and happiness when studying this thing that ought to be recycled into toilet paper.
