Not quite what I was expecting! Sure this is a nice book, lots of pretty pictures, some information, but I think that since the Author resides in Hawaii, then it's mostly pertaining to that part of the world, in relation to Volcano's I mean. Felt that since it was a book on Volcano's, that it should at least incorporate more of them that are throughout the world, rather than centering on mostly on the one's there. Would not really recommend this book to someone who's wanting to learn about all volcano's, If your only wanting to learn about one's there, then it's a great book. Otherwise look elsewhere!

Although this book has been available for years, it continues to sell and for good reason. It is among the best of its kind. The book provides powerful documentation of a volcano - Mauna Kea - through visuals provided by a master photographer that is slated to become part of American history. The words and images cannot be regarded as history, however, as long as the volcano is remains active, upsetting settlements, consuming ancient beaches, providing awe and dismay, beauty and sometimes terror today.

After having worked and lived on Kilauea volcano, I can assure readers that Dorian Weisel's exquisite photographs are the next best thing to being in Hawaii! While lacking in serious scientific content, Fire on the Mountain is a gorgeous coffee table book that any house guest will enjoy browsing. Fire on the Mountain is also a wonderful introduction to Hawaiian volcanoes for the curious. Carl Johnson's writing is a bit flowery in places, but he describes the beauty and fury of Hawaiian volcanoes with genuine awe and appreciation.

I think this book is well writen, and easy to understand, but the thing i like the most about this amazing book is the coolerfull pictures. Most of this book is pictures of erupting valcanoes with captions explaning the pictures. This book taught me many, many things about volcanoes. I recumend this book, Fire on the Mountain for all ages.
