In the early 1900s, Belair Cove was a world unto itself, a small Acadian-French (Cajun) village outside of Ville Platte, Louisiana. It consisted of a few small farms on either side of a winding dirt road that snaked across a wide prairie. Belair Cove was a place where families and friends relied upon each other for survival; a place where everyone knew everything there was to know about one another, yet there were untold secrets. Belair Cove shares such a secret. It is the story of three young Cajuns whose lives were firmly rooted in the land, culture, and people of their village. It is the story of young lovers torn apart by poverty and war. Angelique had to watch as her true love, Jean Marc, went off to fight in the Great War while she stayed home to rage a war of her own in a loveless marriage with a man who slowly spiraled out of control into drunkenness and debauchery. The people of the Cove watched, waited, and eventually everyone had to choose a side.

To be honest, I ordered this book because Felicia Wiggins (of LeVillage in Eunice Louisiana)advertised it by way of her facebook page. I am a big fan of hers and trust her taste in practically all things. I wish I would have been able to make the book signing at LeVillage, but, nevertheless, I am happy to promote indie publishing. Because I live fairly close to Belair Cove in real life, I found this to be a very sweet book.

The cadence and expression of the characters French accented speech is portrayed with some authenticity in this story. The reader was not transported to the time and place of the character’s lives, rendering the novel one dimensional, and flat.

Belair Cove is a MUST READ for anyone with Cajun/French heritage or who is from this area. The story captures your full attention from the first pages. Once you are finished, you are longing to read more. I have read this book and once you start, you can't put it down. It is an awesome love story in which you feel that you are in the community. Again, it is a MUST READ for all.
What a wonderful book. The author captures your attention from the very beginning and carries you all the way to the end. Even though it is set in the Cajun area of La. the story transcends the geographical territory and takes you on a journey of love and loss with her delightful and disdainful characters. A very easy read that is hard to put down.
You've just got to read it for yourself--and enjoy!!!
