The story was very overlong, the characters only average, and there was too much dialogue at the expense of action.

Stand alone read. Ignore the old-style sexy cover, this heroine is a school teacher.

GOOD READ. Well written, appealing storyline, good action, funny situations, charismatic characters, sassy, funny dialogue, a feisty romance, great secondary cast, menacing villain(s), and a great ending. HOWEVER, the writing is a little dated (orig. publ. 1993), the story is a little slow at the beginning, and the heroine falling in love yet again seems a little rushed after two engagement disasters, but this detracts little from this engaging, funny action/romance.

THE STORY focuses on twice jilted, Samantha James, who discovers her latest fiancé "dancing" pants-less, with a neighbor woman. She decides to move on -- literally, by accepting a job as a school teacher in Utah. To get there from Washington, her father asks a friend, tough U.S. Marshal Max Barrett, to accompany her on the two week journey. But unknown to everyone, Max is being hunted by a vicious family of criminal. This threatens both their lives forcing them to work closely together to survive, and a feisty, sweet romance develops.

OVERALL, an entertaining storyline, smart, focused characters, and a friendship/romance that makes for a fun read.

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, and E. Palfrey. For good mystery/detective writers you might try J. D. Robb, D. Stabenow, S. Grafton, Gayle Wilson, Sharon Sala, and Julie Miller.
