This one is the same with the exception that the shallow guy leading our heroine on for no other reason than to make her fall in love with him as a cruel joke lasted longer than I have seen in others written by Mrs. Neels.

The best of betty neels. She was a smallish girl and a little plump, but nicely so. Her hair, hanging down her back in a brown tide loosely tied with a ribbon, was the same soft brown as her eyes and although she was on the plain side, when she smiled or became animated, the plainness was lost in its charm. She was almost twenty-five years old and looked a good deal younger.
