by Eugenia Price

First published to great success in 1979, and now reissued with an updated Preface, Leave Yourself Alone is a book Eugenia Price’s readers will want to add to their personal collection of her writings.According to Eugenia Price, the emotionally healthy person is the one who is focused outside of the self, and whose attention is directed toward God and other people. In Leave Yourself Alone, she explores specific areas of life–work, prayer, conversation, relationships–where people can and should “leave themselves alone.” In her own inimitable and charming style, Ms. Price prods her readers to turn to Him in times of trouble. She states, “As long as we are pulled inward, wringing our own hands in despair and self-attention, we don’t have a free hand to reach for God’s grace. If we mean to leave ourselves alone, we must keep a free hand for what He has to give. He always knows exactly what we need.”Timely and full of the wisdom that has made Ms. Price a bestselling writer of inspirational books, this updated edition of Leave Yourself Alone is an important addition to The Eugenia Price Treasury of Faith.

This book starts right out pushing Jesus Christ and God's plan for us so much so that it is really annoying unless you are already in the choir and want to hear information from this point of view. I thought it was more of a psychology book than a spiritual one. If you are happy with the evangelical approach then perhaps its a great book for you. I couldn't get very far into it and just had to put it down.

I've had this book in my library for many years; having read it at the outgoing months of a bad breakdown. Since, whenever hearing about one's being 'stuck' with agonizing past-memories or trying to understand just why they, in their own mind, can't measure up to what society dictates, this book always comes to mind for referral/recommending. Yes, its based on Christianity, but like medicine, we either respect our creator and/or the creator of the medicines we're willing to take. Thus said, today I'm ordering another to send to a precious gal who was raised in an abusive home and just can't let it go. Its' title, "Leave Yourself Alone", sometimes is the best burials of old wounds we could get!
