by Thomas Berry

In this volume, celebrated author and "geologian" Thomas Berry reflects on Christianity and the environmental crisis of our times. In powerful and poetic language, he presents a compelling vision of the sacredness of the universe and the interrelatedness of the Earth community. Drawing on Thomas Aquinas and Teilhard de Chardin, Berry brings the Christian tradition into a cosmology of care for the whole of creation.

This book is a poignant reminder that we are all stewards of our wonderful planet, and we can all do a better job caring for and nurturing our environment. We start by changing our mindset, by remembering that we do not lord over this planet, though some may argue it is our God-given right to do so. This book is required reading for all who are trying to change their perspective about the role we play in preserving our planet.

This book is a wonderful and needed distillation of material that points to the great need to deal with ecological, human rights and justice issues in order to preserve our lives and the health of the earth. Good for Chirstians and non-Christians as well.

One of Berry's no-holds-barred assignment of responsibility to each Christian to contribute to the needed solutions to the environmental problems we have created. An excellent, provocative work.

This text is a definite enlightenment to future earth! Thomas Berry, an authority on ecology and justice, has done an excellent job on down to earth explanation of ecological and cosmological information that can be useful to help clergy enlighten their congregation toward responsible stewardship.

The Christian Future and the Fate of Earth provides for us a guide into the future where humans can learn to live with all other species in peace and harmony. Thomas Berry helps us to know the story of the Universe and our story as One. He invites us to recognize our place in the Universe as one species among many, each having a role to play. These writings, edited by Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grimm, provide for us a way to create and live into a sustainable future. Highly recommend.

Great ideas. Great work to open the mind of Catholics and Christians (I am one of them) regarding our earth. Mind-opening for anyone, really.

I love Thomas Berry and his work. This particular book I had difficulty with the small print.
Wish it was larger and easier to read.
The Christian Future and the Fate of Earth is a thin, well developed and complex book. The book should be considered if you have time and background to slowly study the contents. If you are used to reading a book once and putting it aside, this is probably not for you. To fully comprehend this book, you will need to read it two or more times and with each reading additional insights are obtained. This is a cerebal project and not a beach speed read. You may want to consider forming a study group and and develop collective understanding building upon a team concept. With time and a little (lots) of effort, this book is a great addition to your knowledge and understanding of how Christians have a great responsibility for moral and spiritual as well as to the world community.
