Book arrived as expected and on time. I gave 3 stars because after all of the hype surrounding it, I found this book to be extremely boring. All of the events described seem like a poor attempt at being creative and making up ridiculous situations. Don't waste your time with it!!

MICHELLE'S STORY IS SO TYPICAL OF WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FROM THE DAY'S OF CAIN AND ABEL. OUR WORLD IS IN THE PROCESS OF FINDING THE TRUTH ABOUT THESE CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN. MANY WON'T BE ABLE TO BEAR THE TRUTH OF MICHELLE'S STORY BUT THE PRICE FOR IGNORING THIS TRUTH IS TO PLACE MORE CHILDREN IN HARMS WAY. READ THIS BOOK AND BE THE HOPE YOU WOULD WANT SOMEONE TO BE FOR YOUR CHILD OR GRANDCHILDREN.

Bizarre book about disturbed individual that started the Ritual Satanic Abuse scandals in the latter 20th century. Good book to purchase for that reason, based on fictitious memories, dreams, fantasies and confabulation obtained under hypnotic regression,

I gave this book two stars because it actually works somewhat as a piece of fiction and likely would make a decent horror movie. Its not badly written, but it is certainly not non-fiction. I found it interesting in light of the times it was written in and the part it played in the rise of panic about Satanic abuse being everywhere back in the 80's and 90's, but I certainly don't find it compelling as anything approaching truth and the fact that Michelle and Dr Pazder ended up divorcing their spouses of the time and marrying each other later casts a long shadow of doubt on the whole account, as do many other issues.

Michelle sees Dr Pazder for 4 years in therapy and never once do these horrible memories of ritual abuse emerge. Its only after she loses a child that, suddenly, she has this feeling of something dark and terrible bubbling up inside her and she goes back to her Dr Pazder and they engage in sessions that last hours and hours while these memories come out, sometimes with the two of them lying on the floor with her head pillowed on his shoulder (there are quite a few instances of inappropriate doctor-patient behavior in this book). As the months go by, Michelle recalls a time when her mother gave her over to people who tried to train her to say strange things, kept her locked up with a "nurse," involved her in rituals that included using her as a child compass of all things, and finally had her as a key player in some great Satanic ritual where Satan himself supposedly appeared. All of this is coming back due to some connection between the days during the year she is remembering and the days in the year when it happened, which is all part of some ritual that only takes place every 20 some years or so and in time with certain Satanic holidays.

As the book goes on the remembrances go from the odd (but still potentially believeable) to the completely silly...including some doctor sewing appendanges on the child and her ripping them free, having her teeth knocked out, and of course the rash on her arm and neck being described as having been caused by the actual tail-serpent of Satan wrapping around her during this great ritual. Michelle recalls that she stopped eating during most of this time (which lasted for months) since they tried to feed her food with bugs in it and talks about having to drink her own urine due to not being given water...yet this five year old somehow survived and managed to thwart the grand plans of these Satanists and Satan himself. Also, the Satanic priests were said to have cut off one of their fingers in their rituals when they gave themselves to Satan, making it easy to find them later one would assume and yet nothing more was made of that either. Plus, lets not forget the appearance of Mother Mary helping out the little girl as they let Satan speak all in rhymes and get him all riled up so that he "reveals" more than he meant to during his pep-talk to his people.

Of course, its the doctor who equates these memories with his experiences of witchcraft in Africa and decides it MUST be the Church of Satan Michelle was involved with...of which there is not even an attempt at all to prove this idea factual or not. His memories of children with filed sharp teeth he saw in Africa even appear in the final big ceremony. There are letters at the back of the book that are supposed to back up these claims, one from her dentist and one from a dermatologist, but they don't really back up any claim as the dentist report is about a root canal that might have been caused by damage to a tooth between the ages of 6-10 (as if this never happens in childhood and is certainly not proof that they ripped out her baby teeth) and the dermatologist says her rash is caused by contact dermatitis and equates it to soap and an ointment she was using. The idea of a potential psychosomatic cause isn't even addressed.

In the rest of the book, there is no evidence provided that the family was ever interviewed or friends or neighbors or law enforcement. There are apparently tons of transcripts from the sessions, but they were not included, only fictionalized and claims made that the words were straight from the sessions. If this book was meant to be read a real, then including at least some of the transcripts would have helped out, or maybe the book should have just been the transcripts alone and let people draw their own conclusions.

I don't believe this book. I believe its possible something bad happened to this woman as a child, but her doctor muddled himself too far into the picture and, though he claims he was skeptical, he far too easily let himself fall into the trap of believing that what was being recalled was factual. Read it as fiction if you like. Read it in the historical context of the hysteria surrounding the belief that Satanists are everywhere around us, even in Canada, with or without their fingers giving them away. Just don't fall into the same trap of reading it as evidence.

I don't know how anyone ever believed this woman or her man. From the first page, it's textbook BS. She'd grown dependent on her psychiatrist , when he felt she no longer needed services and told her, she freaked out and created this whole account outta thin air, he ran with it. They got paid, they got married and the book was shut down...because it was BS! BUT... it's an excellent story, Like a bad road accident, I couldn't tear myself away. I had to keep going no matter how horrible things were, no matter how full of crap I thought this couple was, I still had to read the story.

Horrible. Don't waste any time on this book. Not my choice, a book club dud.

As Described thank you
I didn't like this book whether it was true or a hoax. Boring writing.
