What does it take to overcome fear? In a word, listening. Learning to quiet fear and listen three-dimensionally-to one's own inner voice, to others, and to the enviornment-is the practice Cutler and Huntsberry call creative listening. This book tells the story of how the authors stumbled upon this discovery and how it can help people from all walks of life to live more creatively and fearlessly.

What better way to learn to listen than by listening to people tell their own meaningful stories and gathering your own conclusion?

Just as Cheryl Cutler and Ran Huntsberry teach their dance/life classes in an organized yet outside-of-the-box, creative way, so this book also teaches lessons without feeling didactic.

The book is organized so that you can read it from beginning to end, or you can pick and choose which parts you feel like reading when you want to--like a "Choose your own Adventure" book. It seems symbolic to me that there is no "right way." Each individual reader is different, and the authors acknowledge that.

My favorite parts are the authors' autobiographical stories. Reading them felt like eavesdropping!
Chery and Ran recount their experiences, describe their methods, and
share their insights in a natural, engaging way. The immediate content
of their writing is always interesting and accessible. The most
valuable part to me, though, is the knowledge they have that underlies
everything they write. That knowledge -- of how we can access the invisible resources that are available to us all and in us all as we interact with each other - reminds me to trust those resources and to be open to them. Whether we think of needing a way to overcome fear, as they describe, or we want to work through something we don't ourselves call fear (perhaps disappointment, impasse, grief, estrangement, inertia) or to be more creative, independent of conscious fears, that same wisdom applies -- and is a gift.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
Cutler and Huntsberry have changed thousands of people's lives - including
mine - through their workshops. Finally, they have made their wisdom
available to everyone in their new book . . . an inspiration to read, and a
joy to live.
Studded with brilliant and illuminating aphorisms,
a distillation of wisdom, full of practical applications in everyday life,
this is a wonderful, compelling, provocative book.

Learning to listen -- to oneself, to other people, and to the environment --
is a key to success in work and in life.
Learning to listen allows us to overcome the fears
that block creativity and effective collaboration.
Every human knows the power of fear and how it limits our freedom. This book brilliantly points the way toward true empowerment, using stories of listening with our whole being, not just our ears. For me, the most memorable advice was what to do when inspiration fails: "repeat, borrow, or be still." I can't wait to share this with my clients!
What a joy to sit in the unknown and just listen . . . intently; to discover that strength is a function of flexibility, and that confidence comes from calming the momentum. Wise counsel from two have spent their lifetimes sharing their passions with those of us lucky enough to listen and embrace the dance!
Creative Listening brings into reach and reason precepts and skills that create connections to all that surrounds us. The reader-friendly format offers compelling justification to be unafraid in our daily lives and genuinely receptive to our own power and possibilities.
A truly remarkable transference of insights from improvisational dance to the human dance in which we all are engaged. An inspiring handbook for living wherever you may be on life's path.
