Wonderfully written, honest, and intriguing, Andrei Ridgeway's "Psychic Living" engages the reader from beginning to end. It begins with an inro on how psychic attributes like instinct and intuition are intrinsic to our deepest selves and harken to a time when surviving in the world meant being in tune with and aware of our environment, suggesting an awareness not unlike the mindful states attained through meditation. Ridgeway then summarizes four main character types--the Seer (third eye vision), the Empath (heart, feeling or love that takes in the emotional or physical experience of others), the Warrior (animal or gut instict), and the Shaman (soul travel through or communication with the beyond)--that encompass most psychic abilities. In successive sections of the book, he describes each character type in depth, the psychic attributes attributable to each (seeing colors, signs, and remote places; feelings, voices, dreams; moment-to-moment awareness, movement; guides, rituals, symbols, oracles) and fun exercises to demonstrate, sometimes surprisingly, our own innate abilities to be more intuitive, to be more aware. And at the beginning of each chapter, the author opens with intriguing quotes from famous persons, like Einstein ("Imagination is more important than knowledge.") or Khahlil Gibran ("Your children are not your children, they are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself."). Ridgeway's words ring true and I could not help but be fascinated with each chapter. Of the many books on this topic, this is one of the few that makes the word "psychic" seem not as something alien or strange to the human experience, but as something comforting and familiar. I highly recommend it!

(Note: Psychic Living does have short discussions about Tarot cards, the I Ching, Oija boards, and Runes, recommending how to approach these psychic tools, but you would have to purhase the relevant tool and study it on your own, as the details are outside the scope of the book.)

I have read Ridgeway's later book, "Intuitive Living," and although it's honest and fairly well written, it doesn't have the engaging discussion, thoughtful organization, or fun exercises found in this book, and it adds little to the topic of intuition, which is already covered fairly well in this book. Stick with "Psychic Living."

I am in awe of this book as I am in awe of the remarkable young man who wrote it. Andrei is "the real thing" and he gives away the psychic's secrets so that each of his readers can get in touch with their elemental souls and see life the way it was meant to be seen before the advent of modern ways. This book is a joy to read! Andrei's prose flows easily through your mind leaving warm feelings and a sparkling trail of wisdom. Through simple exercises and suggestions of poetry and music, he leads you through a gradual reawakening of that inner joy, that wide-eyed wonder that all of us had as children. He returns you to the primal understanding of the mysteries of life - and shows you the beauty that only waits for an open heart and mind.
This is without a doubt the best book I have read on the subject of regaining and enhancing one's psychic power, and I recommend it to you with the greatest enthusiasm!

I'm impressed, and I don't impress easily. I've read zillions of books in the area of spirituality, psychic development, altered states of consciousness, and the like. There's a lot of filler out there. Ridgeway, however, is a wonderful writer--wise, down-to-earth, witty, soulful--and his ideas and exercises are creative. You will not find another book like this in this field. Don't let the material on the cover fool you into thinking this is merely another book about how to read cards or palms: This is a book about how to live more fully. He's after nothing less than the expansion of your soul and the liberation of your wildness! In the process--yes, yes, yes!!!--you will become more psychic! Enjoy!

This book is just wonderful. I have read hundreds of works on the art of personalizing psychic phenomena; this author gets right to the heart of the matter. Being psychic is more than just parlour amusement; it's a responsible, fantastic journey. The author explains many ways that an individual can explore the depths of perception that lay in the field of energy surrounding the reader. He tells you how to "flesh" out the details and decode the meaning. His style is readable and enticing. Worth twice the price of admission!

I first read this book around ten years ago. It is one of my underlined books and that only happens when a book speaks to me on many levels. Andrei Ridgeway has a very personal style and comes across as being so human embodying all the struggles we all go through. I like this as it give me access to the process of owning my own psychic energy. He speaks of 4 aspects of growth, each runs parallel with Native American 4 directions on the wheel. I just bought two books again to give to two of my friends. I can not lend mine because it is so marked up. He is honest and real, making the inner world so obviously there. For me reading a good book is like talking to a good friend. Nancy

I teach a class called "Enhancing your Psychic Abilities" so I'm always doing research through books and media looking for ways to add quality education, and skills to my class. After I checked this book out of the library...okay, everyone's felt this way... I was tempted to "lose" it - it was so intriguing... had to have it. I have read so many books on the subject, and this is full of valueable knowledge that isn't all fluff. WONDERFUL BOOK... worth every cent and then some!

This book is a gift of knowledge, this was probably copy number 75 that I purchased for someone with gifts so they would understand them. I first had this book fall at my feet in a Barnes a Nobel store, the year it was published. I purchased it and have shared it with over 100 people, they loved it too!
It is interesting that at first glance i thought I had wasted my time and money, but then after reading for a while longer and doing some exercises I found it to be very insightful. I think you have to open up to enjoy this and then it becomes an impelling, moving book. A pleasant surprise.
