by William Nack

William Nack has won the prestigious Eclipse Award-given annually for the best magazine piece on horseracing-an unprecedented six times. His only previous book, Secretariat: The Making of a Champion, has been eloquently described by Laura Hillenbrand, author of Seabiscuit, as the "gold standard" of horse books. Now, Nack's finest turf writing, coupled with an ample assortment of dead-on profiles and investigative stories across the world of sports, is brought together in My Turf. Nack serves up unforgettable portraits: from his celebrated account of the death of Secretariat to his homage to both Yankee Stadium and Saratoga, including one-of-a-kind profiles of boxers Sonny Liston and Rocky Marciano, jockeys Willie Shoemaker and Robbie Davis, baseball players Keith Hernandez and the schizophrenic Martin Bergen, basketball coach Rick Pitino, and the chess master Bobby Fischer.

Love it. Columns or articles about horse racing, boxing, and football.
A remarkable collection of literary snippets detailing some of the most significant persons, places and events in the world of racing and boxing. A must read for those who follow the history and heritage of those sports.
Great writing and stories for the horse lover.
Bill provides some great sports stories with clearly and wit. I bought the book for my son-in-law and he loves it.
I'm not much of a sports fan, but that doesn't matter. This book isn't about sports, it's about people. It's full of incredible, carefully reported stories that I couldn't put down.
Impressed with article/story on Pitino and the one on Secretariat. Great info.!
Glad I stumbled upon this author, like his style!
Bill was the reason I used to Subscribe to Sports Illustrated. Now that he is retired I don't subscribe any more.
Great read with some real incite.
