Victor Pellegrino is Professor Emeritus of writing and literature at Maui Community College. It may not sound like much of a credential when compared to Harvard or Yale, but Pellegrino should be known for his words and works which far outshine most of what is produced at Ivy League institutions.

Pellegrino has written four truly marvelous guides to various aspects of using the English language.,

"A Writer's Guide To Perfect Punctuation" is usable for anyone from high school student to heavily experienced writer.

Pellegrino has created this thin (71 pages) work as a study guide and, what I think is the more important purpose, of being a handy reference.

He covers the 14 common punctuation elements, explains what they are to be used for (often handy) and provides usage examples. This is not heavy: just very useful. This is precisely the kind of reference you want to have immediately available when you need an immediate refresher on when to use a semicolon instead of a colon and moments like that.

I've now purchased all four of Pellegrino's writer's guide and they have their own spot on my desk. Very handy quick references and unusually useful for a working writer.

I'm an aspiring writer who had courses in English decades ago, but with fading memory for the details of when to use various punctuation marks in my compositions. I wanted an authoritative source with straight forward answers to my questions that wouldn't take me a long time to peruse. This manual is the solution. It's laid out logically in a format that deals with the marks in alphabetical order, making my task quite easy. Each segment comes with examples that help to consolidate one's decision as to what to use when. I think you'll like this a lot and it's very affordable.

Small book, but very informative. This is exactly what I needed for my book. It's easy to read and understand and not too much information for what I needed. I needed something short and to the point. This book is it!

This is an great reference book. Not only are the rules of punctuation given, but also examples. It even includes the use of em and en dashes. If you are looking for an easy to follow guide to punctuation, this may very well suite your need.
