I had to work and memorize the words in this vocabulary book while I was in college. Best experience I could have ever had. This book set me up for life. My vocabulary is the best of the best and I am as articulate as anyone could ever be based off of the words and definitions I gained from this book. I bought it for my Goddaughter and even my mother wanted a copy recently. I recommend this book to anyone that desires to succeed at their highest level in life.

It's hard to get excited about a vocabulary book, but this is the best I've worked with in 40 years of teaching English. The emphasis on word roots and affixes (if one must study vocabulary separately from literature) cover more language than simply memorizing lists of words. Though the 2nd edition suffers from some dated sentences in the exercises (e.g. for euthanasia: "In the eyes of the law, anyone who commits ___, regardless of the circumstances, is a murderer."), one the whole the book is still a useful text.

Having used this book when teaching high-school English, I can say it is one of the best vocabulary books ever. This book is an SAT verbal prep course in itself. Wish that it were in print more and used in all sophomore and junior classes.

Please be aware that this is a workbook. I didn't realize that, and purchased a used copy from DailyDeal USA for my high school freshman. What good is a workbook that has the answers written in it?? Workbooks where someone has already done the work should not be sold to unsuspecting internet buyers, they should be kept or placed in the recycling component of your trash!

I home school/co-op my son and this is an EXCELLENT book to compliment our existing language arts curriculum. We will be proud to keep this one in our home library forever.

Love this book. I used an earlier edition in the 80's and it has only gotten better. It is well organized and simply put together. I used it for my homeschooled, high school son, for the vocabulary component of his sophomore English class. It vastly improved his writing as he had more vocabulary options at his behest. He was pleased with it and has taken it with him to college as a reference book. I like that he was able to develop a college level or better vocabulary with so little difficulty. He is expressing himself more confidently as he has a greater ability to clearly hone his words to his intended meaning.

Book was in great shape, and it's just what my daughter needed or her Honor Junior English Class. Thanks for the great service. On to the words, the greatest strength of a civilized nation, through clear and appropriate communication.
This product was great, it did have some writing in the first few pages, but I didn't really mind. I just erased them all (since it was written in pencil, thankfully), and wrote them back in with my own handwriting.

The product arrived in due time, and was in the condition described it'd be in.
