This has been a wonderful stepping stone to reading Polish (after having taught myself basic grammar). Selection is good, stories not too long, and almost all of the vocabulary is in the back, eliminating need for dictionary. Highly recommend.

I'm learning Polish and this book is helpful. It would be nice to find a set of stories not quite as advanced, as these are still very difficult for a novice Polish speaker. But, there is not a lot available in the United States.

These stories were written more than 40 years ago. I suppose everything is relative but I wouldn't really call that modern.
Also, the choices about what words to annotate are strange at best. In the first few pages, for example, you'll find translations for these: mam, prosze panow, w razie, chyba ze tak. All of these seem like everyday words and sayings that you learn right away. (At least I learned them in one year of living in Poland.) But then, there are so many (to me) higher level words that are not annotated. I felt like I was looking up every other word and I finally gave up on the book. Maybe it's too advanced for me but it felt like a slap in the face that such easy things were translated. At any rate, I debated how many stars to give it and decided on three because, well, I haven't really read the book! Maybe some day I'll be more advanced and come back to it but I know I can't count on the annotations.

These 15 short stories are in the Polish language. They are appropriate for those with an intermediate(or higher)level of Polish. Footnotes and a glossary provide English translations.
