We used this map extensively while we were traveling the North and South Islands with our daughter & grandchildren. If you've driven in NZ, you know you don't want to make a wrong turn because the roads are narrow, windy, and there are very few options to get you where you want to go. My daughter had some off-brand GPS (I didn't even know that existed.) Cell reception was almost non-existent on the South Island and data was going to cost us $10/day, so we relied heavily on this map, and it always proved accurate, even when conflicting with the GPS. The coating on this map really held up, too. Highly recommend!
We traveled in the South Island. The map is good and really strong, but you really don't need a map today while traveling. There are not that many roads in NZ and if you have google maps on your phone, you will most probably be able to find where you need to go. The one time we needed a map ws to find the Hokitika Gorge, the map was not helpful. It was not detailed enough to find the smaller roads we needed. Luckily we had internet coverage in Hokitika and in some spots on the way so we were able to find it. Good map, but we didn't need it while there. IT might be helpful for planing your trip if you don't want to work with an on-line map.
I just received this and hopefully will love it. I am not sure the paper will be sturdy enough for significant use when we get to New Zealand. However, I like that I received the 8th edition, published in 2016, rather than the 7th edition (2013), which is indicated on Amazon. It has lots of sites marked and special markings for very scenic spots. It has one way streets indicated in the cities and dotted lines indicating railroads, even the smaller scenic ones. If it holds up, it will 5 stars.
We love maps, we are headed to New Zealand, ant this great map is coming along. We have looked it over carefully and are looking forward to using it in the months ahead. Very happy with this purchase!
Really useful map with icons marking POIs, and roads are clearly marked. Sturdy map as well, should withstand our travels.
This is an outstanding map with an easy to read, large scale. Its waterproof material also makes it very durable. We used the map on a self-guided 3-week driving trip in New Zealand, and it's still almost as good as new
It's a large map, so you have to have space to use it. South Island on one side and North on the other. Seems durable, though and detail is OK, including major "tramps" to plan a trip. I think smaller more detailed maps will be required when we get there.
This is a fantastic road map. It has both the North and South islands with places of interest noted as well as insets with city detail. It is coated paper which can be folded again and again without wearing or tearing. Extremely useful and highly recommend.
