They say Americans are singularly ignorant of geography. My knowledge of geography is fairly good, but I learned about the same time I bought these two excellent sourcebooks that my husband's family was from Lorraine, not Alsace. For those with family from Alsace, though, these two volumes are worth their weight in gold -- easy to read, easy to find needed data, data substantiated well -- everything a sourcebook should be. Now, if only my kin had come from Alsace, I'd have the answers I wanted.
My ancestors are from Alsace-Lorraine so I thought this would be helpful but it wasn't. A waste of money.
