I have read this one, "Through Nature to God," and have scoped out others by Fiske. I have found that John Fiske's work is:

- Scientifically dated—which is not the biggest issue for me, since I read many books over 100 years old. Since he is not a scientist, the examples that he gives are usually interesting and still hold some philosophical weight.
- Christian perspective—you will find him giving occasional Scripture references, but only occasionally. He is a philosopher, not a preacher, although some of his attractively printed little books may lead one to think that he is penning a Scripture study.
- Heavily focused on theistic evolution—this is developed, as far as I can tell, in all of the books by him that I have looked at.

As far as I can tell, Fiske's books are artifacts from a season in which some prominent and progressive American Christians found evolutionary theory to be attractive and elegant. During that time period I have found very little discussion of how evolution might fit with Scripture, which is often the topic today; then, there were many who took it for granted as the next step is biological thinking.

That being said, I was definitely put off by finding a third of a book, supposedly about immortality, developing a theory of the soul that jives with evolutionary theory. From a perspective that rejects evolution, it didn't add to the main argument. Once I got through that, there were definitely some interesting arguments for the immortality of the soul, which were both clear and concise. But I would say I am definitely done with John Fiske for now.
It turned out this was not the book I was looking for and didn't meet my need.Since it was a free e-book I was not out much.
