This is an excellent museum book full of exquisite images of their paintings with the unique addition that those that are gilded being printed with gold ink. Now those gilded icons & paintings have the warm, golden glow the artist intended.
Within it's pages & on it's white, sized pages are examples of some of the finest examples of western art. This is a book to savor slowly, enjoying each detail of these exquisite works of art.

This is a BIG, HEAVY BOOK, not for causal reading on your lap, you will want a sturdy table to hold this as you enjoy it's beautiful images of fine art with brief descriptions of each one though some works are given their own more extensive description of the art & the artist.
Gravelblade
Huge, informative, and FULL of mostly color photos that are big enough to use as painting references for any artist. A lot of information and I got my copy for $2.98! I jumped up and down! I will be looking at the series close to it to buy up! A must in any artists library.

Not to oversimplify this book, I'm not really an art connoisseur or anything, but it was perfect for my needs.

This is a great book if you're just generally interested in a huge book of fine art featured in a museum that maybe someday, I'll get to visit. Sometimes, that's what I enjoy reading and looking at when I have moments of time to fill.

I liked getting this book. And purchasing it from a used dealer, I believe that I paid less than $5 for this monster of an art book, was such a great deal! I've enjoyed having it.
Halloween
We visited the National Gallery. We spent much of the day there and didn't see half of the exhibits. So I decided to purchase this book. It is very complete. It was great being able to see the many paintings with accurate descriptions about them and knowing that I have seen many of the originals in the actual gallery.
It is a great reference book and resplendent with photos of the actual paintings.

What a beautiful book! there is a great deal of interesting information in the text, and, of course, the pictures are absolutely gorgeous. This was a wonderful purchase, and because it is the 1977 (I think) version, an inexpensive one!.

Color reproductions are poor compared to newer art books.

Beautiful book. We bought it to replace the edition we had that burned in a forest fire along with the other 2000 history and art books. This was the first (and so far only) book my wife wanted to replace. Good book.
Yes this one is one to own!
It is a massive book with full color photos and enough information to be helpful without being heavy handed. Many pages have more than one plate but there are still a great number of them in full page format with excellent detail. It is one of the finest Art Gallery books I own. It has 1,135 illustrations and 1,035 plates in full color, what more needs to be said.
