A friend recently gave me her d3000. She had no manual, but I was able to download the manual. I found the manual difficult to read, small print and just confusing. So, I bought a couple other books on the d3000, all of which were lacking. Then somehow I came upon this book, From Snapshots to Great Shots and for the first time I really began to understand my camera. I wasted a lot of money on books before finding this. To give you an example of my frustration, I was very frustrated with the time the LCD screen stay on. As a beginner, I did not have time enough to read the screen and gain an understanding of all the information on it and i did not know you could change the time the LCD stayed on. One of the first things the books addressed was the LCD screen and how to make it stay on longer. Now tha tis just one simple example of the many features that the book has shown me how to change and what a relief. Thank you Amazon!!!

At first I was going to order the D3000 Dummies book, but saw the reviews on this and was sold. I have only been though the first 20 pages, but within those few pages I have gained great knowledge! The author does an amazing job of making the concepts easy to understand, and why you should do certain things with your camera and when. There are pictures of the camera and photo steps of switching settings. I have been taking a pic before adjusting settings and then one after, and the differences are extremely noticeable. The best part is you are not bogged down with too much information and in turn you remember the things you need to! There are also assignments at the end of each chapter and when you log in and register your book on his site you get bonus chapters. The book also has several photos that also give photo tips, and not just how to use your camera! I would recommend this book to a beginner or even someone like me that "thought" they understood the settings on the camera. Honestly, I never bothered with my manual, and I am happy I never did, and this book is teaching me what I need! I hope any future camera I buy Jeff Revell writes a book on it as well! Thank you Revell for sharing your talent and knowledge.

Like I said, if you own a D3000 this book is as necessary an accessory as a lens!

The author says it best - your manual tells you how to do all this stuff, but it doesn't tell you why, or when! I've had this camera for over 2 years, and this book helped me to explore beyond the auto settings. Well organized, attractive and entertaining. Extremely helpful to have instructions which are specific to your own camera - it just makes learning quicker and easier. The exercises help reinforce what's been covered in the chapter. Highly recommended!

I bought the Nikon D3000 about a month ago and have two other books dealing with this camera, but yours is the best one. It is straight to the point, clear and concise. It has lots of great pictures along with the settings which were used to take each photo. What I want to know is what to do and how to do it to get a great photo with the camera and that is the information you give me. I just began taking a photography class and this book makes everything so much clearer. After each chapter there are exercises. I'm just getting into the exercises and it's interesting and fun, a great learning tool.

This book has a lot of great info in it that isn't necessarily in your manual. With so many features, it can get exhausting trying to figure everything out. This book helped me understand things better and with just a few changes, I am already getting much better pictures. I am only about half way through the book so far, and it's already been well worth it.

This book is exactly what I was looking for. The information is presented in a clear, easily readable conversational tone with excellent illustrations to clarify the concepts and techniques. It's well organized and will definitely help any D3000 owner get the most from their camera. A valuable resource.
