I have needed this to bridge my earlier students into scales and this is the first one in MANY years after Barbra Barber's abridged Flesch/Galamian (revised with Galamian fingering choices) books through Summy-Birchard. Flesch is WAY too hard and needs to be reserved for serious music majors. To sick that on younger students is a crime in my opinion, and SOMETHING has to be reserved for the college levels of study! Only Itzhak Perlman or equivalent could play all those notes! Barbra Barber's is excellent AFTER this one. But I found this at the 2011 ASTA booth, and then last month had a hard time buying it. Where has it gone to?!? I am requiring it for all my students now and they no longer have to read my chicken-scratched versions of scales in one octave due to the LACK of simpler printings for elementary students. This book is all I need for ALL levels of my studio. The rest can wait until college and MAJORS in music.

The Violin Book is very easy to do and i love it. Im an intermediate violin player and recommend it. It is simple but every scale and arpeggio is needed to advance. Helps give you a very solid foundation. I think everyone should have it before going on to more serious books like carl flesch or anything. Love it

Scale books for violin seem to be few and far between, so I was happy to find this one. The book is nicely laid out and clear to read, with suggested fingerings for higher positions. My only disappointment was that the minor scales are melodic only, without any harmonic minors.

I teach violin to two intermediate students. This scale book is very useful to students that are not ready for Flesch scales. This book is a lot more convenient than playing the scattered scales in the Essential Elements books. There are also fingerings for shifting typed in.

Only melodic minor scales included. Natural minor would be a better minor scale to start with, or else include both.
