by Linda Parry

William Morris Textiles was the first comprehensive survey of the many hundreds of original, colorful textiles produced by William Morris (1834–1896) and the two commercial companies he founded and managed. To this day it remains the authority in the field, and this revised edition has been completely rewritten, reorganized, and expanded with beautiful new photography. Morris expert Linda Parry provides new insight into the embroideries, printed and woven textiles, carpets, and tapestries produced by Morris & Co., giving in-depth information about their design and manufacture. The varied, often highly specialized processes involved are discussed in detail, as are Morris’s working methods. Lavishly illustrated throughout, this is the unparalleled study of the subject.

I wish there were more color plates, but the index of patterns in the back is great. Everyone I showed this to was amazed by William Morris' work.

It was super helpful as reference for my own pattern project!

If you are interested in the arts and crafts movement, needlework, William Morris and his colleagues - this should be on your bookshelf for pleasurable reading and frequent reference. Stunning book. I have it on my coffee table right now.

I'd like to have given it 3 1/2 stars.

I understand that it is expensive to reproduce color photographs, especially in the early 80s, but 3/4 of the pictures in the book are B&W and it's hard to think of a subject that needs color photos more than a treatment of William Morris. The color photos are good and there is a very useful appendix with color pictures of the most popular designs. The B&W images are often not as crisp as they should be.

The text is interesting and very helpful.

I like the book. I'm not harping on the images but I def think it's important for people to know exactly what they're getting.
