by Peter J. Russell,Stephen L. Wolfe,Paul E. Hertz,Cecie Starr

Biology: The Dynamic Science is the first general biology text with an experimental approach that connects historical research, recent advances achieved with molecular tools, and a glimpse of the future through the eyes of prominent researchers working on key unanswered questions of the day. This comprehensive framework doesn't come at the expense of essential concepts. Rather, it provides a meaningful, realistic context for learning all of the core material that students must master in their first course. Written "from the ground up" with minimal jargon and crisp, straight forward explanations of the current state of biological knowledge, the text supports students as they learn the scientific process-and how to think as scientists do.

As an old (and by now I do mean old) biology teacher, ITunes University caught my attention with the number of free lecture series. This path lead me to one of the recommended textbooks, BIOLOGY, THE DYNAMIC SCIENCE by Russell. And how fortunate I was to find a $218+ textbook available for under $20, somewhat used but in great condition. Sure, it is a 2008 edition but it is dovetailing so well with the U.Cal Berkley Biology course it is as if I am back in college but having so much more fun. I can't believe how much new info is presented with great clarity and charts/illustrations, especially in the general area of biochemistry. This book is splendid. Well, I said I was old!
I needed this book for my biology 1 class and I used it more than I originally anticipated to. It contains many diagrams to put help explain things such as mitosis and meiosis which was very helpful.
Terrific text. Great graphics. Good self tests and reviews. Two minor complaints. There are frequent errors in the labeling of the great drawings. Also the answers to the test questions are frequently wrong. I think that when they rearranged the questions they forgot to rearrange the answers. I didn't mind so much because I liked having to find the correct answer when the givin answer was different that my initial answer.
Having thoroughly perused this text after finding it on a Barnes and Noble bookshelf while looking for a superior biology text to correlate to the one my school is using for pre-med, I found this text to be superior to most of the other biology texts, and in particular, it certainly gives Cambell a competitive challenge. It's fine level of detail and thorough explanation I honestly think supasses Cambell on many, many levels. I personally would choose this text over all of the other Biology texts if you're looking for great exposition, easy comprehension, and great graphics. You can't go wrong with this text! Beautifully written, beautifully illustated.
For $25, I it was nice enough shape. The spin was still in good condition. I wish some of the pages weren't messed up. Kinda looks like they got wet, but for $25 on a $200 book, there really is no complaining.
Very Old Chap
This book was in absolutely awful even though they claimed it was "used-good." The book is coming out of the binding and almost falling apart. The hard cover is broken in multiple places. I will never ever order anything from them ever again. I would advise that you wouldn't order from them either without EXTREME CAUTION.
Great text for our kids to learn Biology at home.
The product did not look as intended, and when I tried to return it, there was a $14.00 restock fee that I did not know about beforehand.
Very unpleasant.
