For nearly a century, counterintelligence has played a crucial role in providing force protection to the Army while keeping the Nation’s most guarded secrets.  Today, it continues to play an integral part in America’s first line of defense in the war against global terrorism. In the Shadow of the Sphinx, an absorbing new history of Army counterintelligence, now reveals the real stories of the soldiers and civilians of Army counterintelligence on the front lines of three major wars and the shadowy Cold War conflict of spy versus counterspy.

As a Counterintelligence Warrant Officer and a student of counterintelligence history, I found this book extremely informative and have even used it as a reference in several peer reviewed papers.

An excellent history of Army Counterintelligence from infancy to the Cold War Era. I found the book very informative, especially the unclassified details of the organization and structure of Army Counterintelligence over the past decade. The author should write another book on how Army Counterintelligence has changed due to the War on Terror. The author provides a wealth of pictures that detail the histroy of Army Counterintelligence. A must reading for any counterintelligence officer.
