I bought the book for Comparative Religion class. Although my class and professor exceeded my expectations and I got an A for the class, the book was a flop. The book failed to explain each religion clearly and thoroughly despite the paramount writing. Therefore, I often read other books and online articles for better understanding. I suggested the professor to choose a better book for the future.
Unless it is required for a class, please do not buy this book.

It was the correct book that we needed for class. I learned a lot about other religions but the viewpoint was from an outsider, not someone who practiced the religions. This doesn't allow you to learn the true feelings associated between a person and God.

Unfortunately I only found out towards the end of my semester, but this particular print was obviously botched. It's missing the last few pages of the Christianity chapter and the first few pages of the Islam chapter. There are also another 10 pages of the Islam chapter that are repeated but perhaps this is to make up for a batch of missing pages in the middle of the chapter. Pretty frustrating.

This is a textbook, and my assumption was that all 9th edition texts would be the same, but evidently different colleges can make modifications, and even though my school is using this edition, the chapters are in a different order, and each chapter is a little different in the way the parts are put together.

i've read up a few of these book's editions and they all have the same materials i know it's how the marketing system works for these books but it's shady to make students buy newer expensive edition for same old crap

I've been reading it for my Religions class and love that it came in a kindle version. After downloading the free kindle app I can access it from any computer. It saved me a lot of money and it returns itself as it is a digital copy (No late fees). This book is a great detailed resource for information regarding a large array of religions. It is pretty much text-only, my apologies to those of you who like pictures.
Overall, it is a good read and a smart choice for college students on a budget.

I had to buy this book for my World Religions class, but I was surprised. I actually learned a lot about other religions and cultures from this book. I'm not saying it is worth buying if not for class but if a teacher is reading this thinking about getting it for a class I would say it is definitely worth it.
