What is better than holding school in a haunted mansion or a mystery to solve before disaster strikes? The students at Elmwood Elementary must find out what is going on and save their school. I have used this book as a leveled reader for students with a reading range of 3.4 to 4,0 and every one of them have enjoyed it. It has a simple plot, good characters, and lots of opportunity for prediction.
Book is ok, displease with the costumer service .
Great story.
My daughter liked this book ok but it didn't really have the suspense I expected. The story was also a bit unrealistic so that my 8 year old had a hard time focusing on the story rather than asking questions about why the kids were allowed to do what they were doing.
Grandson is an avid reader and this is one of many purchased. He likes the style of this writer. He is a second grader.
Elwood Elementary has become overcrowded, so the third-graders have been moved to an old house, the Blackwell mansion, which has been empty for years. The house looks kind of spooky, and there are a lot of local ghost stories about it. Fortunately, Adam likes scary stories, so he thinks that it's wonderful to go to school there. Soon, strange things begin happening. Objects fall off desks and shelves, and door slam for no reason. The kids start getting nervous, and so is their teacher, Mr. Jenkins. Then, Mr. Jenkins decides to give the kids group assignments. Each committee gets to go to a different place in town and learn about it. Adam's committee is assigned to study Blackwell house and decide if it's really haunted. The kids think their assignment is pretty strange, and most of the group members are misfits in one way or another. By working together, they not only learn the secret of Blackwell house, but they learn more about each other and become a real team and friends.

It's a fun mystery for kids in elementary school. There are two others in the series, The Return of the Third-Grade Ghosthunters and The Ghost on the Hill.
The Elmwood Elementary was overcrowded this year and the 3rd grade had to move into the old Blackwell mansion.

The teacher, Mr. Jenkins, announced that they would be putting together a newspaper. The students would be put into groups. Norma, Adam, Chick, Debbie, Joey and Dan were picked for the psychic investigation committee.

They would investigate the strange things that were happening in the school. Supplies were going missing, pencils were falling off desks, dark shadows were seen and strange noises were heard.

This is one of my favorite books from my childhood. I had lost the book years ago but I found a new copy at a thrift shop recently. This is a wonderful book about friendship. If you can find a copy, buy it!
I bought this book through Scholastic book orders when I was 8 years old. I'm now 25 and still read it every once in awhile. In the book, a group of unique (I won't say misfit, because they're very realistic) third graders bands together to solve the mystery of their school. Each uses their own strengths but works as a team to solve a mystery that has befuddle adults -- even their teachers -- for ages. It's a great story for kids in upper elementary years, and includes great side stories about art appreciation, math fears, and those crazy jokes that are always so popular in elementary school. I love this book!
