We didn't enjoy this book because of the arguing between the little girl and her mom. It is throughout the book, and makes the mood of the book feel tense instead of fun for young children.
I bought this for my son. He is dyslexic and has trouble reading, so therefore he doesn't want to read at all. We started reading this and he loved the story. He laughed and was excited to read ahead to see what was going to happen. After we read it I had to order him two more books he picked out. This is fantastic. Anything to get him to sit down to read and practice so he can get better.
My 5 and 8 year olds listened with rapt attention while my 5 yo followed along in the book. My 11 yo was nearby and thought it was cute. They have not listened to it again though but I won't deduct any stars for that since I think they just have a lot of activities and books to choose from. Would have preferred if they wanted to listen and read it again though. I'll probably have to suggest it for that to happen though.

My sons enjoyed reading this book, but one thing I don't like about this story is that Minn and her mom yell at each other throughout the book.
I loved this book as a kid and thought my daughter would like it too. She sure enough did! We had to read it twice and then at least once a day for a week if not more.
I had this story when I was little and it was nice to read it again to my boys. Came on time and in good condition. Great story. Would buy again!
I enjoyed this book as a little girl and when I saw it in Amazon recommendations, I had to buy it for my toddler. She loves to have me read it to her.
It is missing the beginning. It starts on page 4. We may never know how the conversation with Minneapolis Simpkins and her mom all began since the story picks up in the middle of Minn's pleas for a pet. I also have a 1st edition and it is missing the beginning too. You'd think it 35 years someone would have caught and corrected this.
