Nick Merchant is an heir hunter--a little-known species of private investigator who searches for a dead person's next of kin when no will exists, and collects a percentage of the estate. Gerald Jacobs is a reclusive millionaire, found dead in a creaky old house in upstate New York. His net worth: twenty-two million dollars. Nick and his beautiful partner, Alex Moreno, think they're about to score the payday of a lifetime. Unfortunately, they've got some pretty stiff competition. A rival firm is doing its best to beat them to the punch. And someone else--someone who knows every dark secret in Gerald Jacobs's grave--will stop at nothing to see that no one ever breaks this case. Nick and Alex work against the clock, narrowly eluding their rivals, dodging bullets, and unearthing a history a lot of people would rather keep buried. Moving from San Francisco to New York City, from Geneva to Washington, D.C.--and dozens of points in between--they struggle to uncover the guilty secret behind a dead man's fortune.Unfortunately, he's got some pretty stiff competition. I enjoyed reading about something other than the police or someone else solving a murder or chasing a serial killer. Finding people to let them know they've received an inheritance and then being drawn in with character's I cared about and a storyline that was intriguing

Larsgaard has hit on the intriguing subject of heir hunting. With its believable heroes, the story rollocks along from one tight corner to the next. It's an easy reading style that I like. There must be plenty of material out there, so roll on the next book!

Fabulous story of the people who try to find heirs to Estates. This family story was more than interesting or fun! It was excruciating!!

Starts fast and fresh, with lots of promise ... But about half-way through, the tight plot starts to have loose ends and the pace drags ... By the end, lots has unraveled, details go missing, and with it, goes reader attention. A disappointing finish to a strong opening.

I had a hard time getting into the novel, but after about 50 pages, the pace picked up. The story had an interesting plot. I had never before read anything about heir hunters and found this an interesting and fresh story line. I would like to see more from this author.

A very interesting tale. I didn't know there were professional heir hunters. A coveted inheritance fee turned into a story of long ago plundered treasure. Murder and intrigue kept me engrossed in this one.

I had never heard of heir hunters. A whole new world. But that was just the context for a fast moving suspenseful story full of twists and turns. An easy fun read.
I liked this novel very much. I hope the author will write more "heir hunting" books. The main characters were likable. I was bothered by a couple of the deaths, but I suppose they were necessary to move the plot along.
