This book takes everything to a deeper level than "A First Book for Understanding Diabetes." It explains each component of diabetes in more detail. It does use medical vocabulary; therefore, a study if the glossary is helpful before launching into the text. I cannot say enough about how this books has been our friend over the last 13 years.
What a wonderful tool for helping both the non-medical individual but those in the medical field who haven't worked with diabetes in a while! So much has changed from even 10 years ago! I loved the simple drawings and ease of the book.
This is book of authority. It covers everything about good health, loss weight, and diabetic. I highly recommend the book regardless if you are healthy or not.
I am partly through this book. Thus far, I am pleased with the information. The information is very helpful for my approach to manage diabetic symptoms.
Are you lost? Buy this book. It is informative, detailed and well organized. If you are going to buy one book, this would be the one. Our daughter has diabetes type one, and this book helped answer a lot of questions we had. It also covers diabetes type II. It covers ketones, BS, Insulin types, injections, nutrition, exercise, challenges, support groups, sick days, pumps, camps, school, babysitters, and some research.

Good luck!
Nicely wriiten, full of facts and easy to understand.
A clear and well-organized manual for understanding and managing Type I diabetes. Covering virtually every aspect of diabetes care, Understanding Diabetes is practically a crash course in a single book. The book is easy to read and full of excellent illustrations and helpful equations and tables. Also a great resource for discussions with your diabetes care team.
