It wasn't the first time danger had come to his ranch, but for Deputy Mason Ryland it was the final straw. Someone had been targeting his family for too long and the brooding lawman now had a new person to protect: horse trainer Abbie Baker. His newest employee's arrival suspiciously coincided with the latest attack, and it wasn't long before he uncovered a decades-old secret between Abbie and the Ryland clan. But as much as that connection rankled, Mason couldn't ignore the fact that someone wanted beautiful Abbie dead. As an upholder of the law, he'd keep her safely tucked by his side through the investigation. As a man, he'd offer his personal protection through the endless summer nights.…

Concludes continued story. 6th in The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series

GOOD READ! Nicely written, chilling storyline with a few twists, unusual characters, strong family theme about love, forgiveness, and what it means to be family, ruthless villain(s), the hero is refreshingly different from his brothers featured in previous books, and a creative and compelling ending. HOWEVER, the heroine situation is very contrived, there are several unexplained plot holes, but overall these issues detract only slightly from the storyline.

THE STORY follows Ryland Ranch's new horse trainer, Abbie Baker, and ranch manager and part-time Deputy Sheriff, Mason Ryland. Twenty years earlier, the Ryland patriarch, Boone, gave each sons a silver Concho with their initials on it, left the ranch without explanation, and his sons never saw or heard from him again.

As the story unfolds, Abbie takes a job on Ryland Ranch with secrets and a hidden agenda. When someone tries to kill her, Mason discovers a worn Concho with Boone Ryland's initials on it and she is forced to explain her connection to Boone. Her revelations are not what the Ryland family expects and emotions become more complicated when Boone shows up in person. But throughout this family drama, Mason is focused on Abbie and he has no intention of letting anyone harm her. He sticks close and a sweet romance develops. What follows is a race to discover who is pulling the strings and figure out their deadly plan.

OVERALL, unusual storyline with an exciting ending. The LAWMAN OF SILVER CREEK RANCH includes: Grayson, Dade, Nate, Kade, Gage, Mason, Josh, and Sawyer.

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, or E. Palfrey. For good mystery / detective writers try J. D. Robb, D. Stabenow, S. Grafton, S. Sala, D. Marton, Gayle Wilson, or Julie Miller.
Heck, he just went for it. “I want to marry you,” Mason blurted out. The sea of streaming Rylands froze, and once again, all eyes were on them. Abbie just stared, too. And she was holding her breath. She had a frozen look on her face. “Say yes so we can go home,” Dade complained. Grayson leaned in. “Say yes only if it’s what you want to say,” he said using his big-brother tone. “Make him suffer a little bit first,” Gage joked. Mason gave them all dirty looks. “Can we have some privacy here?” “No,” they answered in unison. “Say yes, Abbie.”
The short version? I loved this book!

Delores Fossen has given me a new appreciation for a cowboy hero. While I've enjoyed the entire Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch miniseries, and have liked some stories/brothers more than others, I had a feeling MASON was going to be my favorite brother, and that this was going to be my favorite book. I was right!

The setup for Mason Ryland's story--a great hero, rough & tough & take charge, not big on sweet talk or finesse, but he gets the job done. And Abbie is more than his match. While her innocence scares this commitment-phobic hero a little bit, there's plenty of courage running through her, and I loved watching how her tenacity and vulnerability get under his skin. Not only is this a fast-paced romantic suspense, with plenty of villains and danger from the past and present to contend with, but it's a wonderful culmination to a great series. I especially loved the return of Boone Ryland--the father the Ryland brothers all hate. But he turned out to be pretty complex and interesting to get to know better, and, he made it easy to see where the Ryland brothers get their heroic tendencies... or maybe they rubbed off on ol' Dad, too?

At any rate, I wish I'd had the opportunity to finish the series sooner. I enjoyed them all. And together, I felt like I was getting a bigger, more complex, very satisfying read.
I had preconceived notions about the type of woman Mason would have to encounter to fall in love, but I was surprised the woman wasn't what or who I thought it would be. Turned out great anyway.
Slowly writer
This final installment of the Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch is a fit ending to an excellent series. Mason is the most prickly and standoffish of all of the brothers. He runs the ranch and is a parttime deputy, who hires a young woman to train his horses only having to rescue her from the burning guesthouse she was staying in. Abbie turns out to be there for another reason which is to get to know the Ryland brothers. Her foster father Boone is the brothers estranged Father. Not wanting her anywhere around or wanting to deal with their Dad ever she decides to leave but upon finding out there are hitmen out to kill her Mason decides to protect her. Mason doesn't want to like her but he can't help himself. The plot thickens when the sheriff,Grayson, finds out that the dead Senator had left letters for his lawyer and his girlfriend that wants a hit put out on all of the brothers and Abbie to earn a bunch of money. Fighting to save themselves,Abbie, their estranged Dad Boone and their wives and kids becomes a play that nobody wants to lose. It is a fitting ending to a great series. Now ready for another series from DF which should be out next year. I love Fossen's writing style and her attention to detail.
This was a really good story. I really liked all the action and how the characters interacted. I highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book so much I saved it and read it again! The author, Delores Fossen is a wonderful writer. She captures your interest immediately with Handsome Rancher/Deputy Mason Ryland rescuing petite Abbey, his horse trainer from a fire set by an unknown arsonist. From there it takes you to family, love, secrets from the past to pre meditated plot for murder. Great story, Great read!
Suberb series of books, made me want to read the next pages holding my interest until the end.
