What happened at the custody hearing with the all powerful McGowans and the loser ex husband?? Great story but ending was cut off and rushed. The editing was bad with change in scenes running together - very confusing and annoying. Story was realistic and I liked the Navajo aspect of Will's being a medicine man/medic in the Army. Arley's ex husband being rich trying to force her back into marriage by threatening to take their son away. Along comes Will with his sweet loving way with her son and sparks happened. Of course Will is threatened by powerful McGowan family; he stands up with Arley against it. Upcoming custody hearing which she misses because notice is "lost". Will's family come to help then Will & Arley rush to get married due to his deployment. The end! Maybe some of the trips down memory lane could've been cut to make room for confrontation in rescheduled custody battle. I love all this author's books so far including this as far as it went. I have liked and sought Cheryl Reavis' books for years and this is another one that utterly charmed me. Be sure to read her "The Older Woman" first to get the full impact of her two stories. This story depicts Arly, the "handful," the youngest sister of the four Meehan sisters. Omigosh, if you have sisters, read these books for just the entertainment value of sisterly interactions - you will laugh your head off! Arly is indeed a handful. Arly has a beautiful little boy and an ex-husband it is absolutely obligatory to hate - we've ALL met that man! Arly gets involved with a half-Navajo paratrooper and all hell breaks loose! Okay, am not going to say more, don't want to spoil the story but honest, read these two books. Cheryl Reavis' writing is an absolute delight!

Arley and Will come from very different worlds but the love they share builds bridges to bond them to each other and the families they love. Real people with baggage find strength in each other to heal the wounds of the past and promise a future worth fighting for. Bravo Ms Reavis. Once again it is almost 2:30 in the morning but I couldn't put this book down. Loved it!

It is great to find books from a favorite author that you can't find at the library nor at the usual bookstores.

It's been long enough since I read the stories of some of the characters in this book that I had forgotten who was who (whom?), but that didn't make them or the story any less fun to read.

MEDICINE MAN is Book 5 in Cheryl Reavis' Navajo Family Blessings series and Book 4 in Reavis' Fort Bragg series. Obliviously, MEDICINE MAN is a wrap-up book to terminate loose ends.

MEDICINE MAN original Release Date- March 2007
From the Back Cover-
He was about to go to a war zone. He couldn't get involved with a woman now.

She was in a battle for custody of her son. She couldn't risk a new romance.

He was half Navajo; he embraced the spiritual wisdom of his ancestors.

She knew nothing about his traditions.

And both Will Baron's and Arley Meehan's big, protective, opinionated families opposed the two of them being together.

If they were smart, they'd walk away from each other fast. If they followed their hearts, who knew what might happen.

My Review-
Sigh, reading the back cover should have been my clue -- large spacing and lines of curt description. But no I bought this! Why? Because I always wondered what became of Will Barron from the Navajo Family Blessings series and Arley Meehan from the Fort Bragg series. Just kidding! I bought this book because I like Cheryl Reavis as an author. Unfortunately . . .! MEDICINE MAN has no energy. Will Barron and Arley Meehan have no romance. And the reader has no fun. MEDICINE MAN is a story of chunks and bits and pieces and screams: half-hearted WARP-UP.

Will Baron is the character that brings together his family, through Sloan Baron the female lead from ONE OF OUR OWN "Family Blessings"#1 [he was three years old]

He is in the paratroopers at Fort Bragg. He ends up meeting Arley Meehan, sister to Kate Meehan of #1445 THE OLDER WOMAN, and Arley's son, Scotty.

This is not good. She is just out of a divorce and he is waiting to be sent to the war zone. And Arley's ex is looking for a reason to take his son away.

Patrick Baron shows up, surprising his younger half-brother, Will. In the end Patrick wants Will to sing "the Blessing" of the Navajo People for him. Both seem to have lost their way [or inner peace].

Patrick tells Will to go see the family home, still belonging to Sloan, she is now married to Lucas Singer.

Mrs. Bee plays a great part in helping Arley and also joins Arley in a bar, along with Arley's sisters. What a hoot.

Look for #901 - One of Our Own - #2 1039 - Meggie's Baby - #3 1122 - Mother To Be - #4 1147 - Tenderly - then is Kate Meehan's story in 1445.

This is a great set of Books - Definitely Recommended - you will enjoy if you like the Native Indian stories.
I buy anything by Cheryl Reavis-this was part of a really great series and did not disappoint. Super story-a ten for sure.
