I'm a big fan of Daniels and this was as good as all his stuff is.
Rose Of Winds
Les Daniels is one of my all-time favorite vampire authors. I've never read anything else he's written but he could probably review toilet paper and I would love it!
Moonshaper
When a vampire rescues a child from a train wreck and carried her to safety, he keeps watch over her for the rest of her life. Felicia Lamb is now an heiress, growing up to become engaged to Reginald Callendar, a ne'er-do-well who expects to be his uncle's heir. Imagine his surprise when his uncle dies and is discovered to have selfishly spent all his money on himself. Reginald decides he'd better marry Felicia sooner rather than later to secure her inheritance and to do that he has to wrest her away from the influence of Mr. Newcastle, a medium with whom she's very involved.

Little does he know Newcastle's real identity.

Thus begins the struggle between a greedy man who may or may not actually love Felicia and the creature who saved her when she was a child, one wanting her money and her body, the other wanting the girl herself.

This is a very well-written story, giving not only a chilling atmosphere of gothic dread, but also some interesting information about the era in which it is set. There was amusing and descriptive and well-turned phrases. The ending is totally unexpected in every way.

The cover is also very interesting since it features a picture of Mexican horror actor Germán Robles in a scene taken directly from one of his films.

Risky Strong Dromedary
The fog of the title is London fog, rolling in to make everything murky and even more mysterious than it already is.

Saved by a stranger she believes is an anger when her parents are killed in a train wreck, Felicia Lamb grows up believing in the supernatural and the Afterlife. She comes under the influence of Mr. Newcastle, a medium, in reality the vampire, still watching over her.

Felicia has things other than a vampire to worry about however, thought she's unaware, for her fiance, Reginald Callendar is a gambler and a drunkard, left destitute by his wealthy uncles death and determined to marry Felicia to gain her fortune so he can spend it. He comes up against Newcastle, seeing in the medium a rival for Felicia's wealth if nor her love.

What follows is a Victorian-set gothic novel with a great deal of description, notations about the life of the times, and a chilling atmosphere enhanced by that creeping yellow fog. The ending was a surprise.

I didn't realize this was part of a series and I wish now I had a few of the other entries to read also.

I remember reading this book in grade school. It was actually in our library...lol I was 12 at the time and I absolutely loved it when I read it. In fact, this book is what got me fascinated with Vampire stories...also helped that my English teacher was close friends with Anne Rice. I remember the description in the book of how she saw her rescuer in the end...it stuck in my head how vivid the writer had written it. It's been 30yrs and I still remember this story.
