I usually don't rate or review Louis L'Amour Books. Not because I don't like them -- to the contrary. I have never read one that I didn't enjoy. For me, they are entertaining, escapist fiction, with a little history, romance, and Americana thrown in. It's just that, for me it's hard to differentiate them. They are all fun to read, I know what I'm getting, and I look forward to a new (for me) one, as I haven't yet read them all. But, sooner or later I will.

So, in that context I usually give them 5 stars, because they are what they are. So why 4 stars for this one? Well it was good, readable, etc., except I think it ended about 20 pages too soon. The romantic thread wasn't resolved and the "eye on the glorious future" language missing. Still a good, fun, read. Just not as satisfying an ending as usual.
If you like to hear how a real man should act and carry his self then L'amour writing will interest you. He talks of straight up deals and you now right were a man stands, no guess work. If their were more people in the world like his ca

rectors, it would be a better place. This is an inttertaining read and keeps you reading to see how it turns out.
Tap and Dan, brothers, stood together in the end. That's what matters. A man without family is a lonely man. I am raising my 5 kids to put family first. Always protect and stand by your siblings. I love Mr L'Amour's books. Been a loyal fan since 1980. All I know about right and wrong I learned from the Bible and reading Louis L'Amour's books.
Spectacular but, of course it's spectacular. It's L'Amour. This is a wonderful example of what makes this author a timeless treasure. Opening the frontier was at least this rough. Not only is the storyline gripping and memorable but the history lessons woven into it are fascinating. A must read.
The first 50 or 60 pages are slow and lumbering which I find of many L'Amour novels.
Then things pick up with a terrific story line and character development so typical of the author.
The ending for me seemed rushed while not unfullfilling it still left with me a feeling there
should be more. Almost seemed as if the novel was left unfinished and the ending was
quickly attached to complete the rather short novel of 173 pages.
Louis L'Amour is a good writer, who's books are predictable and fun to read. If you want unexpected plot twists and bad guys to be heros pick another author.
Great story. Typical good Louis L'Amour book with good characters and lots of action. The audio CD was very well done.
Excellent read. Good story line. Would recommend.
