NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERIn this joyous and whimsical holiday novel, Debbie Macomber rings in the season with the return of Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy, delivering laughs, love, and a charming dose of angelic intervention.   Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy know that an angel’s work is never done, especially during a time as wondrous as New Year’s Eve. With an apprentice angel, Will, under their wings, they descend upon Times Square in New York City eager to join in the festivities. And when Will spies two lonely strangers in the crowd, he decides midnight is the perfect time to lend a heavenly helping hand.         Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild meet after bumping into each other—seemingly by accident—in Times Square on New Year’s Eve. They immediately hit it off and find they have a lot in common: Lucie is a burgeoning chef and Aren is a respected food critic. But just as quickly as they’re brought together, another twist of fate tears them apart, leaving Lucie and Aren with no way to reconnect.   A year later, Lucie is the chef of an acclaimed new restaurant and Aren is a successful columnist for a major New York newspaper. For all the time that’s passed, the two have not forgotten their one serendipitous evening—and neither have Shirley, Goodness, Mercy, and Will. To reunite the young couple, the angels cook up a brilliant plan: mix true love, a second chance, and a generous sprinkle of mischief to create an unforgettable Christmas miracle.Praise for Angels at the Table   “This delightful mix of romance, humor, hope and happenstance is the perfect recipe for holiday cheer.”—   “Rings in Christmas in tried-and-true Macomber style, with romance and a touch of heavenly magic.”—Kirkus Reviews   “The angels’ antics are a hugely hilarious and entertaining bonus to a warm love story.”—Bookreporter   “[A] sweetly charming holiday romance.”—Library Journal

I like that they introduced the new intern angel. By trying to be helpful, he goofs and starts the timeline for two likeable characters too early for their relationship to be successful. Unfortunately, I got hung up on the way the author set up the initial encounter between the leads. Hero is spending New Year celebration with his recently brokenhearted sister in an effort to cheer her up. He becomes separated from her and then texts her that he will find his own way home after he makes a drink date with an attractive stranger. So what happened to the brokenhearted sister ? The author again tries to tell us how brokenhearted sister is again later in the book. If she was so brokenhearted that he took her out to cheer her up, why did he dump her when he had a better option? The hero was damaged at that point for me. His snotty review of his botched meal continued his negative portrayal. If your meal is that bad but your brokenhearted sister's is that good, maybe you should check wth the kitchen to see what was the problem. Of course, something that simple would not have moved the story along. This book was like watching the day time soaps and getting frustrated with the characters mistakes and misconceptions. As angry as heroine was for most of the book, her finally forgiving him didn't feel geniune. I have to think a guy that can get that snarky isn't worth the effort. Finally, the angels keystone cops performance was amusing but really a bit of overkill at times. Angels fans may love it regardless, just not up to her usual offerings.
I love Debbie Macomber's Angels books. There is always a good story line behind each character the angels are trying to help in their unorthodox manner. The angels are so sweet and have the best of intentions. They leave me laughing. This is a book you could read more than once and it would still delight you.
Hilarious Kangaroo
I am a Macomber fan from way back. I have always enjoyed her warm, folksy novels and looked forward eagerly to her next one. Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy have absolutely delighted me in the past and I was anticapating another great Christmas story. T was disappointed.
There is nothing wrong with this novel. it was as well written as her others have been, but there was just something missing, some intangible element that made the others so hilariously funny and this one only slightly amusing. I enjoyed the book, only not as much as I expected to. It is a fast and easy read about love and angels and Christmas!
Debbie Macomber is my favorite author. I can always count on a light read that reflect her strong values. Sorry...but, this was just lame and dragging...some mentioned it is more like a chidren's book and I agree....except that a stranger kisses her and she leaves alone with him that night! That doesn't sound like her writing. I'll just re-read one of her previous books to get my Debbie Macomber fix!
Christmas in July! This is simply a joyful read. The reader will not find profanity, sexual scenes or violence. Instead the mind will be treated to scenes that induce smiles and laughter and even sweet tears. The characters are fiction; each one having endearing qualities. The endings may not be what the reader expects which is another positive mark for this easy read.
Biblical angels are strong not silly- but it is best to remember that this is a work of fiction. Enjoy and look forward to the next book in this series.
If you have ever read any Debbie Macomber books you know that Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are the stars of her angel books. I fell in love with these characters a long time ago and I still love the antics of these three angels. Who would think that angels could get into such trouble? These books make you laugh and cheer with joy for the outcome that the angels bring about. If you haven't read any of the Angel books, start now. You will be so glad you did. In this series and every other one Debbie Macomber is an angel to her readers.
Shirley, Goodness and Mercy mean well, but they always seem to create chaos first. In this trip to earth the angels bring an apprentice Will, and he adds to the Chaos.
Lucie was a superb chef, well known for the sauce she served in her new restaurant.
Aren was a young journalist who wrote the restaurant review column for the local newspaper under the name of Eaton Wells.
They were destined to meet, but Will causes the meeting too soon. He is about to review her restaurant, but neither knows who the other is. The night of the review Aren goes to her restaurant and the angels each add a bit of seasoning to her sauce, which he writes is the worse thing he's ever tasted.
So follows the plot. Gabriel is not pleased with the quartet, but all works out well, and this was a delightful holiday read. Diane Gold Koenig
I was disappointed in this Christmas story with these mischievious angels I had found so funny in the other books about
them. It really seemed that Ms.Macomber ran out of ideas for these three angels in this book. I found it to have one or two
funny situations that were abit funny. But not at all like the other angel books of hers I have read and enjoyed so much.
I remember her saying that she wasn't going to write anymore angel books. But, I do hope she does find it within herself
to produce more humorous books about these wacky angels.
