Lord Marcus Danvers! That is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this story. He's a playboy alpha, always gets his way kinda guy until he meets Arabella. Then you start to think he may have a soft chewy center somewhat like a tootsie roll pop (delicious suckable object-analogy-intended).
Arabella is not the most beautiful of three sisters but the oldest. She has taken on full responsibility for her younger sisters since her father's death and her mother fled to France with her lover;leaving the girls waist deep in scandal, cast aside by society and living off the charity of a step uncle that despises them.
Lord Marcus Danvers comes into the story when the girls' uncle dies leaving Marcus as their guardian. Independent and headstrong all three girls reject the idea of having a guardian and most certainly defy the idea of being married off to 'eligible suitors' once Marcus provides them each a dowery.
The story unfolds as Marcus and Arabella challenge each other in more than one way.
If I'm being honest I must admit to getting a little bored with some repetitive language about 3 days into Marcus' 'wooing' of Arabella but other than that I loved the story, the characters, the time period, etc..
Arabella has a little Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice) written into her.
For me this was a fun story with great main characters and interesting supportive characters.
Now-I'm off to find a tootsie roll pop...happy reading!
This is the first of 6 books. If you like romance where the guys knows he wants the lady for his wife and the lady doesn't want the guy, then this series is for you. I have read 3 of the 6 so far and the first 3 are all the guys chasing the lady. In this Marcus get guardianship of 3 sisters. He and he two friends are all bachelors and do not want to get married. Marcus just wants to get the three sisters married off. After Marcus meets Arabella he decides he wants her for his wife. She and her 3 sisters have no interest in marriage as their parents hated each other and each parent causes a scandal that makes them outcast for a while. The second 2 books are about the other two sisters and Marcus 2 friends. The last 3 books are about Marcus's sister, a neighbor who one of the sisters thought she wanted to marry, and a friend of the sisters. All in all it was a good book. A break from the love/hate books, even thought they are my favorite.

The books in the series are:
Courtship Wars
1. To Pleasure a Lady (2008)
2. To Bed a Beauty (2008)
3. To Seduce a Bride (2008)
4. To Romance a Charming Rogue (2009)
5. To Tame a Dangerous Lord (2009)
6. To Desire a Wicked Duke (2010)
A story of seduction. Marcus Pierce, Lord Danvers, surprises his friends and himself as well when he pursues one of his wards, Arabella Loring. Arabella has had one negative love affair and has seen firsthand a bad marriage between her parents. The scandal of her parent's marriage has left her and her two sisters with their reputations damaged. The three sisters have also set up an academy where they teach young ladies social graces and she has no intention of giving up her independence. She and Marcus form a wager; she will give him two weeks to convince her to marry him; if he fails he will leave the three sisters to their own lives and dispense with them being his wards. But she must agree to give him ample time each day to woo her. And woo her he does. The convincing takes on forms of touch, taste and other erotic manners as he determines to make her his.
Nicole Jordan's romance wars series is great. Romance, some intrigue, a healthy dose of lust and plenty of laughter. Couldn't be better. Set in the early 19th century, every book in this series has a great couple who will do anything and everything they can think of, within the proper standards set by the ton, of course(sometimes, lol) to either fall in love, make someone else fall in love with them, make a marriage strictly of convenience, fulfill carnal desires... etc, etc, on and on. Great series, you will not be disappointed!!
Marcus and Arabella are hot! And the writing is great, Ms. Jordan seems fairly well versed in the expectations back in this time, although the amount of flaunting the rules that goes on may be a little more than what really happened, it is not so much as to make the books unbelieveable. LOVE THE WHOLE SERIES AND THIS ONE ESPECIALLY!!
Like another reviewer, this review is late. I read the print copy of this book years ago and loved it. When I saw this was 99 cents on Kindle (courtesy of BookBub), I had to have it, despite still having the print copy. This sets off one of my favorite romance series, one I've re-read over the years. Nicole Jordan is one of my favorite authors, though you don't hear as much about her books as some flashier authors (some of whom are terribly overrated). This book has great chemistry and heat.
Marcus Pierce, a strikingly handsome aristocrat with a wicked reputation, inherits guardianship of Arabella Loring and her two younger sisters and immediately declares his intention to marry them off. But gorgeously defiant Arabella sparks frustration and something deeply erotic in Marcus. After matching both wits and swords with her, Marcus concludes that this beautiful and formidable foe must be his.
Nicole Jordan's latest was very interesting, i couldn't put it down. From the story opens up you get sucked in and you instantly fall in love with characters. Arabella is fiercly independent and vows to never get married but Marcus is pesistent and eventually wears her down. I also loved the other two sisters and I can't wait until their stories are published (I would love to see Drew, Marcus' friend, taken down a notch and sincerely hope that Roslyn does it).
I'll admit that this novel isn't quite as passionate as other books by Nicole Jordan which is why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5
Sensual and sexy! I had expected the story to be predictable, but the intensity between this couple quickly took an unexpected turn. An enjoyable romp! I will look for the next book in this series as I can't wait for more of these lusty characters!
