Arson investigator Gideon Taylor had his hands full with three suspicious fires and no leads. Complicating matters were his unresolved feelings for former colleague Meghan Wright-the one woman he'd never got out of his system. She'd become the target of a stalker, whose proximity to Gideon's assignment was no coincidence. But as Gideon and Meghan joined forces to uncover the secrets scorched to cinders, it was clear a five-alarm inferno was about to ignite between them. Could they reveal who was responsible for what appeared to be an elaborate plan before the sizzling embers of their relationship were permanently extinguished...?

Rating: 4.5 stars
Note: Stand alone read. 5th book of The Precinct: The Taylor Clan series

A well written crime story with a surprise twist at the end. Lots of suspense, well developed characters, sizzling sweet romance, believable dialogue, and great descriptive imagery.

THE STORY follows former couple, arson investigator Gideon Taylor and firefighter Meghan Wright, reunited by a rash of arson fires. The book begins at the scene of a raging warehouse fire, where Meghan catches the attention of an aggressive news reporter who pushes her into the limelight. She also catches the eye of the dangerous arsonist who set it. When it becomes clear the arsonist is obsessed with Meghan, Gideon moves to protect her and her extended family, while they work together to identify the arsonist and the others responsible.

THE CHARACTERS are well written, with complex vulnerabilities. Gideon is consistently supported by his traditional family, while Meg, a survivor of the foster care system, finds a loving non-traditional family in a group foster home. Because of their history together, both Gideon and Meg struggle with complex feelings, including Meg's decision to conceal the reason she left him. Their relationship deepens as she finds the courage to reveal her secrets.

AUTHOR J. Miller, is a master of descriptive imagery. She writes with such rich texture and believable dialogue that the reader can almost feel the "heat" of the fire. She brings the sick, obsessive persona of the stalker to life, and with every new fire, the reader glimpses the dangers and risks of being a firefighter. The supporting characters add to the suspense and the clues throughout the book lead the reader to a plausible, yet unexpected final confrontation.

Irritating issue -- How does the perp in black clothing and a mask, attack Meg inside the burning building during the fire, then show up dressed in street clothes outside in the crowd?

The books in the TAYLOR CLAN SERIES are One Good Man, Sudden Engagement, In the Blink of an Eye, The Rookie, Kansas City's Bravest, Unsanctioned Memories, and Last Man Standing. My Advice, read the whole series starting with the first book, One Good Man.

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, C. Ryan.
For good mystery/criminal detective writers you might try J. D. Robb, D. Stabenow, M. Ferris, S. Grafton, J. Evanovich, S. W. Albert, J. Miller or B.J Daniels.
Another wonderful read! Julie Miller is such a wonderful story teller & the Taylor Clan is a wonderful family unit even if this is fiction! I definitely recommend this whole series.
this book is wonderful . I love that he could accept that she would never be able to have children and to was willing to adopt the boys that meghan loved with her whole heart ~
Another book in the Taylor Clan Series - it captivates you. You may think you can predict "who dunnit", but the unexpected twists will surprise you. Read ALL of the Taylor Clan Series!
