by Betty Neels

Unlike her two sisters, Lucy was happier at home - if only she could find Mr. Right to share it with! But when she had almost given up her search for such a man, the eminent pediatrician William Thurloe came into her life. Attractive and dynamic, he was the answer to her dreams. But why would he be interested in her when the glamorous Fiona made it clear she was also available?

What is this fascination with Cinderella's tale of woe? Betty Neels delights in this frame for a story. But she's freshened it. This Cinderella has money. She's smart, but not brilliant. She's pretty but with a mousy personality, rather shy next to her brilliant parents and successful sisters. She doesn't talk much because no one listens much. They have flashy careers and clothes and assume because she doesn't, she's regrettably unimportant. Her career is in child care. And because that's women's work 'anyone' can do, not requiring training and degrees, it's not admirable. And because she wears clothing that suits her instead of chasing style, she's not 'trying.' And shell never get married, poor dear. The story says otherwise, in great detail.

This is more about characters than Neels usually gives attention to. And while ok enjoy her more usual details of antique furniture and road trips and restaurant food of high and lower cuisine, I'm a sucker for characters and how they develop and interact. For a change, check this out.

I love all the Betty Neels books, but especially the ones with hospital settings involved.

This storyline varied a little because the H & H were still of the same social and financial standing. Lucy therefore needed another type of rescuing and it was a delight to experience how the author unfurled her usual magic.

In this book the H/William was a lot less austere than some of the other leading men. I found myself secretly smiling along with him as he teases "the girl with the green eyes".

I would recommend this book to anyone needing to unwind at the end of the workday or to pleasantly pass the time while waiting on appointment, destinations etc.

I gave it five stars because it was a easy effortless read with all the pleasure and none of the guilt of "comfort food" for the soul.

The author did a great job of writing this book. It will keep you wanting to read. I am looking forward to reading more books of Betty Neels.

I loved this book. The Dr.was a patient and caring man. Lucy was perfect for him and really quite clever although her family had convinced her she was not. Her parents were so selfish and self centered and her sisters were also. I loved that she had Alice as a friend and mother figure. I just wish we could have a wedding and been able to see the reaction of her family to her marriage. I feel like this book left me feeling the story was not complete.

Again, a great story by Betty Neels. An enjoyable and relaxing read. You know how it ends, but not how you get there!

I have always loved Betty Neels. When they started coming out in kindle edition, I wanted them all because I re read them and the Kindle is much easier to travel with.

Through most of this story, I really didn't like Miss Green Eyes. While recognizing that she was a nice person, I simply couldn't care what she would be doing in the next chapter.
Love her books
