by Mary L. Hackett

You are invited on a journey into making landscape quilts and providing a bridge from traditional quiltmaking to scenic interpretation. The author leads you through a series of simple exercises designed to help you really see what you are looking at, to decide which images you favor, and to interpret them in fabric. Various simple quiltmaking techniques are combined in a building-block manner to make a fabric picture. Traditionally pieced blocks, whether sewn by hand or machine, are used to create large areas of a landscape. Sky, water, and land masses are made of these pieced sections, and the wonderful geometric shapes lend a subtle texture. She then shows how to add appliqué shapes and details to the background. In Your First Project, a very simple composition of trees, she takes you step by step through the process, then shows you how to add the 'Wow Factors,' those components that fool the eye into accepting illusion. 80 pages + large pull-out pattern section.

Verified buyer...and a buyer who PLANS to actually make more than one of these quilts and use the information on artistic rendering & making distances on quilt designs - well, I will use that ABSOLUTELY.
(and the bad-angel on one shoulder whispers to me..."You better buy a book on Procrastination too")
love, love, love reading about making landscape quilts, hope to try this someday
This book was a nice easy way to make a start on a landscape design for a quilt.
I learned a lot about perspective and balance by using this book.
There are a few good machine quilting tips in there, as well as, a pattern to start you off on your first landscape quilt. Selecting the right border is also covered.
This is a clear and concise book.A good choice if you ever wanted to learn to do landscape quilts. The instructions and pictures make it very easy to understand. Her method for making and attaching bindings is worth having the book besides all the other useful information.
Seriously, folks, it's a QUILTING BOOK! It's not rare and if you actually want to sell your used/new copies then drop the price to retail.

I'm just starting to try to develop my own quilts. This was very informative on material types. Would recommend.
