I stumbled on 'Smart Couples Finish Rich' a decade ago while browsing in a bookstore. My wife and I are both CPAs, and most financial planning books are useless. Bach's 'Smart Couples' provided a nice framework for my wife and me to discuss our financial goals. I've since bought several copies of 'Smart Women Finish Rich' for grad students who rotate through my company. He provides practical advice that can be implemented almost immediately.
good solid book, lots of really useful information that will inspire you to really get your finances together and plan for the future. my only complaint? it needs to be updated again. while *most* of the info/advice (90-95%) is good for any year, a small but relevent part of it was specific to the year it released.

i would still recemmend highly though. this book has changed how i look at financial planning. i was always intimidated by it and thought that kind of thing was for people who got degrees in accounting or business. i actually learned i was looking at it the wrong way. it's more about organizing information and knowing what you're making and what you're spending and knowing your goals (or creating them if you've never looked at your life that deeply) and keeping your goals in view and making sure that you're actually spending your money in a way that consistant with what's important to you and how to find help for investing and stuff like that.

when you start reading you get the feeling that all these steps should have been done years ago but also that they are completely doable. important for people who are sleepwalking through their adult life and not aware of their financial situation, present or future.
Every woman - single or married needs to have this in her library. Explains everything in lay terms. I give it out as gifts to my favorite friends.
I chose this rating simply because it was the highest choice to choose from!

Actually for me there was nothing to dislike! Amazon again is on the cutting edge of supplying information through various media means that goes a long way toward leveling the playing field across the board in virtually every subject matter! I especially like the fact something like this was addressed specifically to and for women! However; it truly is not gender specific as far as I am concerned! Of all similar information I have attempted to read over the past few years it was very direct, to-the-point and reader friendly! It being immediately available for Kindle download was invaluable; giving us the best of both worlds and making it practically
For years I have been trying to get Black Women in finance without very much success until David Bach wrote this book! They are available from at a very reasonable price for paperback books which I am able to purchase in volume for gifts for my twelve(12) sisters, my two daughters and a host of other family members including males!
I was very disappointed in this book. It is outdated and even though it says that it has been updated in 2009, I didn't find this to be true. Bach discusses "car phones" and also when money market accounts had interest rates of 4% - it seems as though to be effective, this book should be updated to focus on a post-recession world for women. Some good points and ideas but overall, I wish I hadn't bought.
Much of the info Mr. Bach gave in chapters 1- 3 I'd read in Glinda Bridgforth's Girl, Get Your Money Straight and Girl, Make Your Money Grow, reading Smart Women I understand what she touched on regarding his Latte Factor, but I was still waiting to get some new info - and I did once I got to Step 5. There was a bit more info about the investments I'm actually looking into at this point in my life that I don't recall reading much about in Bridgforths' two books. Although I recently bought her third - Girl, Get Your Credit Straight, which I'd neglected to add to my collection in my past while collectively reading her first two, this should be read in conjunction with her three books about women gaining control over their financial futures.
We gave this as a present, but David Bach is a leading authority on personal and family money management. A book that we bought after we were married is his Smart Couples Finish Rich, which gave us a lot of guidance on budgeting, investments, paying down debt in a responsible and realistic manner, not being "House poor," etc.

The concepts that David describes are realistic, not "one size fits all." He readily admits that each family and each individual has different financial needs, and these ideas are also addressed in his books. He gives different approaches that will fit different sets of needs, and describes investments that fit different lifestyles.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Financial issues are the #1 reason couples struggle, and certainly individuals struggle too. GREAT BOOK!
