by Adam Lebor

No death certificates were issued at Auschwitz, but today Swiss bankers still demand them before they will release to relatives the assets of account holders killed in the Holocaust. Based on newly declassified documents and archival research, Hitler's Secret Banks reveals the full, hitherto unknown extent of Swiss economic collaboration with the Nazis.

Very important contribution to understanding how Nazi Germany became so powerful. In particular, I never realized how important money laundering could be to a state that needed to purchase steel, chemicals and other vital products from international sellers. The Nazi's significantly paid for their war by ripping out the gold teeth of dead Jews and taking their possessions. Would the killing have been less if the money laundering wasn't possible? Could stealing gold from the Central Banks of Europe have been sufficient?

No question that Nazi Germany's taking over factories and businesses in Switzerland greatly aided their money laundering and war effort. The extent of such, the author tells us, was remarkable. Very efficient murdering and thieving was the foundation of Nazi German. Clearly the Swiss made money from this and worked very closely with the Germans.

Lebor's analytical look at the long forgotten links between Switzerland's bankers and the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler is a must read for anyone interested in understanding the Third Reich's rise to power. Lebor carefully maps out the strategic ties between the two that allowed Germany to rearm after WWI, to launch war against Europe and the Soviet Union and to successfully plan and finance genocide. In a word, this book is a must for any student of history, and for all those interested in understanding how the seeds for the darkest period of the 20th century were planted and germinated.

This book is complete nonsense. Complete anti-Swiss hysteria. The author decided in advance that the Swiss were collaborating with the Nazi regime. He then carefully hand picked documents to make his point. It is not serious. That is not what reputable historians do. Many of the affirmations have been debunked. It is at the level of 9/11 conspiracies.
The Bergier commission report is a much more serious document (and it is freely available).
