JOGETIME
My husband loved this book. He is from Iowa and is always wondering about plants and animals here in SoCal. It is very informative and he likes that it has pictures as well. We like to hike so we take pictures of plants and animals and then look them up in the books later.

Great book

This is a great resource of the common life forms of California. The book makes for a rewarding experience because, since the plants and animals are common, the chances of successfully finding out what you're seeing are likely. I would love to see this book made into a 2nd version that covered only Northern California.

As a newcomer to California and a bird and wildlife enthusiast, I had hoped that this book would inform me of the birds and wildlife I was seeing on a daily basis.

Unfortunately the limitations of the book left me having to go to an alternative resource for even the most common of hawks as they were not displayed or discussed in the book.

I would describe this book as disappointing, although there was some good information on plants and wild flowers.

Very interesting and informative.

I guess this would be great as an entry-level person, as it gives illustrations and explanations of some popular animals, fish, and plants of California. Further research will be needed.
Informative book with good pictures, however I would not have bought this if I knew there is a few pages in the very beginning discussing evolution. I was disappointed because this is a gift for a child whose family also does not teach "billions of years ago" and evolving from single celled organisms.
This book could've been equally informative regarding native California plants and animals without the evolution chapter.
