One year ago today I got married, and a few months after that I turned 30 years old. This has been a year of joy and success, but it has also been unsettling, and frankly a little dreadful to get older! My sense of mortality has asserted itself. My self-assessment of career and achievements has also become newly urgent as I enter a different phase of my life.

Reading this book has felt like a wise response to the many questions that have been going through my head. Am I behind in life? Are my most productive years behind me? Are my biggest moves, and triumphs, complete? Mr. Brim patiently and sagely covers this ground as he leads the reader to a new vista.

Mr. Brim's well tempered writing provided me with new answers and, where there are no real answers, a new perspective. I now have a better idea of what life stages are to come and what I can expect from myself and my cohorts in the future. I am more prepared to take a look at my life and understand the pressures and dynamics of my immediate goals and long-term ambitions. I expect these newfound ideas to inform me in the years ahead.

I came across this book while looking for a nonfiction work to guide me and ground me in this time of introspection and questioning. I wondered if an older book would still be relevant today, and I am happy to say that it was just as relevant as anything you could find at a bookstore today. Mr. Brim's book is wise, intelligent and a pleasure to read. I come away enriched and impressed, and a bit wiser for the effort.
i have read many books & know from real life & working experience that what the author says is true, & it is a very realistic & nicely done analogy of the progression of ambition & our mental & physical states (although they vary between individuals) throughout our working lives~thank you very much for this study
