i gave this a 5 star not because it's a fantastic book, but because it's just what I needed...which, yes, makes it a fantastic book in its own way. I was very disappointed to see that the only other review was a 1 star simply because it wasn't what the buyer had expected it to be and something about not knowing where the money went. If it goes to the author, as it should, fine!

I am searching for good books to send a friend in prison, books for beginners and books that don't go on and on about bolsters and props and clothing and mats, things that prisoners can't avail themselves of, at least not the ones who have no access to a class and are attempting to learn by themselves, as my friend is. I wanted a simple book for the poses, things that could be done in a cell, with minimal explanation and not too much concern about all the details that, yes, a person on the outside could avail themselves of, but not someone in a cell -- something very simple.
This book gave that to me. It is written by a man who served time and uses black-and-white photo illustrations of other prisoners doing poses. They are sometimes not the easiest to see but they are sufficient. The explanations are clear and concise. The writing is good. There is also a good section on breathing. There is even a bit of humor with some poses named specifically with the prison in mind.

My only concern is that I don't know if the book is allowed in the prison, but it should be. There is nothing that I can imagine that would be seen as a problem.
Of course, I will be looking for other books to add depth and detail but this is a great place to start. It doesn't take up much room and you can quickly get what you need, without wading through long passages and explanations as most books would do. I am hoping my friend will find this useful.
This book was not at all what I thought. I'm OK with the fact that it is crude in it's design and content, however I thought this was going to be more of a commentary on Yoga in the prison system. This is a thrown-together compilation of the poses four individuals practiced while incarcerated. I'd even have felt better if the proceeds from the book went to some worth cause or helping to spread Yoga into more prison systems, but there's nothing that indicates that's where the money goes. Not worth the money.
