I am torn between three and four stars for this.... Obviously, I like it because I rented it from the library prior to purchasing it. I knew exactly what I was getting. My only issue with it is almost all the meat recipes require browning prior to putting it in the crock pot. That is why I have never been a "crock pot" fan. You aren't "dumping" anything. You still have to go through all the work.

I am a meal planner. By that I mean I cook most of my meals on Sundays. I purchased this because I am thinking I can do some of the recipes half way on Sunday, throw in a zip lock bag and dump in the crockpot in the am. Lets face it, some things just don't taste good leftover.

Every page has five recipes. Some however, such as hot dogs (but do you really need directions for hot dogs) say to put in the pot but doesn't mention any water whatsoever. I thought you had to have some kind of liquid in a crock pot...... I just noticed that on several items I saw this am trying to find something to make with Italian sausage.

There are no pictures at all. Normally, I like pictures of the steps and of course the ending project. It doesn't bother me on this though because it isn't like crock pot meals are Instagram worthy right? I have never been an exact recipe follower so none of my crockpot creations ever turn out. I always hear people rave about them so I decided to buy a cookbook and follow the exact directions. Maybe there is some science on the liquid / solid ratio that I am missing. I don't know.
I have a previous edition of this book myself that my mom bought me when I first moved out of my dorm room, and I just bought a copy of this edition for my sister as a Christmas gift. This is a great resource for people who have slow cookers and need some good ideas on what to do with them. I've used this book a lot over the years, and several of the recipes have been quite popular with my friends. My favorite recipes are the Cranberry Barbecue Chicken and the Pungent Stew, both are easy to make and so delicious. The great thing about this book is that you can modify the recipes to really make them your own, and since there are usually a few variations of the same type of dish included, you can compare recipes and mix and match until you find your own perfect recipe. I highly recommend this to anyone with a slow cooker, especially for younger people who are new to living on their own and looking for easy ways to prepare delicious dinners without cutting too much into their time. You can get everything cooking before school or work, and come home to a nice meal at the end of a long day!
Very grateful for the cookbook. It was in very good condition. I had owned this, but had given it to one of my daughters to make cooking meals easier for her with a new baby. She has loved her cookbook, too. When my granddaughter was born, I made meals for our daughter that I froze from this cookbook. She and her husband loved the meals!
Wow! I absolutely love this cookbook and the freedom it gives me. Our kids arrived for a long weekend and I had a delicious hot mexican dip ready and waiting for them which they completely devoured in minutes. Next, I made quick work of the left over pot roast buy making a delicious vegetable beef soup. I have done a complete shop at the grocery story for slow cooker friendly pantry items to have on hand. And this is the summer! Imagine what will happen when winter comes around.
I think this is a great slow cooker cookbook! It has a lot of recipes, and sometimes several variations of similar things (like several different stew recipes, several different beef stroganoff recipes, etc). It must have a few hundred recipes or more. Each page has probably 4 or 5 recipes on it- it's really a LOT of recipes!! I like the variety and choice. It appears the recipes were submitted by individuals, and I find most of the meals are more 'traditional' meals. Many of the meals are hearty and heavy, and probably not the most health concious, but they definitely remind me of the kind of meals I grew up eating.

Most of the recipes involve very little prep work, and you can just sort of throw the ingrediants in and go. Some slow coooker cookbooks have you cook and prepare for 1 1/2 hours before you even start slow cooking- and that sort of defeats the purpose for me. I slow cook because I work a 9 hour day and commute 1 1/2 hours each way. After being gone 12 hours, and getting home late, I can't always cook a full meal. These recipes are so easy I can throw the ingrediants in the slow cooker at 10pm at night and put the slow cooker in the refrigerator overnight. Then, the next morning, I pull the slow cooker out of the fridge, plug it in and go to work. Dinner is ready by the time I get home.

This is a good beginner slow cooker cookbook. It doesn't have anything in it that I would call innovative or groundbreaking, but it's a good place to start. I have some other cookbooks with more unusual recipes in them (for example "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook") but I still prefer this one for just your basic slow cooker meal.
This is the first digital copy of the book I have owned but, the second copy ive purchased the first was paperback. I love this book! Great tasting receipes for real people who work and dont have time to waste or money on things that look good in a book but taste medium or awful. This is great for young cooks who want to cook without worry of burning down the house. Great for beginner cooks who dont know where to really start and people who cook often and want some variety on a busy schedule. Set the timer and walk away. It requires practical ingredients most people have around the kitchen or spice rack. Guaranteed if you follow the measurements or add a little extra its gonna taste great.
